Re: David White's - Mk2 Escort - Cosworth V6 Turbo
Made up the inlets for the throttle body today
Not bad really considering it only cost me £13.50 and a pint of scrumpy (£13.50 for the 2 90 deg bends and the scrumpy for Gary to weld the pipes to the back plate I'd made )
I also spent a while porting the throttle body into the pipes to give a nice smooth flow.
Just need to smooth the welds a bit and give it all a coat of silver paint and job jobbed;
Will point the dump valves down now to give more room, just wanted them on show for a bit first

Got the wiring diagram for the management loom the other day ...Glad Andys an electician

Re: David White's - Mk2 Escort - Cosworth V6 Turbo
rich is right , do you know what ecu your going to run yet dave, emeralds latest has a brilliant closed loop egt (exhaust gas temp) facility which can richen the mixture or back the boost off if the exhaust temp starts going to high, and exhaust temp is critcal on turbo motors
Re: David White's - Mk2 Escort - Cosworth V6 Turbo
Another vote for Emerald here, mine was bloody brilliant (doing a good job controlling my bedroom from the top of the wardrobe now ), and the manual with wiring diagrams made it very easy to get working.
She's built like a Steakhouse, but handles like a Bistro
Re: David White's - Mk2 Escort - Cosworth V6 Turbo
Karl at emerald is busy adding new features all the time, they can now have switchable maps, ideal for a race car so you can have a wet, dry, and oh my god qualifying maps that you can switch between on the move.
another good feature for a race car is the facility to run different boost levels in different gears.
they have also done full throttle gear shifts, although probably a waste of time on serious horsepower cars as mine will break traction every gearchange all the way up the box anyway, and i feel full throttle shifting is probably harder on the transmission.
if you have the appropriate wide band lambda probe, as far as fueling goes the ecu can map itself, although i'd rather have dave do it anyway

Am probably going to fit either emerald or DTA Pro 8. The only thing in the favour of DTA is that Steve G is very familiar with it and he is a lot more local than Mr Walker.
The DTA has sequential injection, traction control*, anti- lag, full throttle shifting etc aswell so I think it covers all my needs. Not sure if it has switchable maps though, need to check as that could be very handy like you say
* yes I know its illegal so that wont be used, much

Re: David White's - Mk2 Escort - Cosworth V6 Turbo
very nice Dave
I was considering DTA on an old car of mine and i have to say it looked good... but i sold the car so never got it on there in the end.
Will you be running anti-lag on your engine? If so, I hope the turbos are the proper maram shaft ones or they probably won't last too long!
If you can run closed loop, I definitely would! As Graham says.. very handy thing to have!
Re: David White's - Mk2 Escort - Cosworth V6 Turbo
sequential injection wont gain you any power, in fact it might be a disadvange as it will mean you need bigger injectors,
traction control would be nice but its against the rules
i suspect your car will be like mine, want full throttle gear shifts like it needs a hole in the piston.
whatever ecu you use you really want the ecu to control the boost presure, that way you can have a nice predicable power delivery, that will back the boost off on the smaller throttle positions for greater control.
the emerald also has anti lag software, although on a tarmac race car i dont feel it important like in a rally car, avoiding lag is a much about correct gearing and driving technique as anything
Re: David White's - Mk2 Escort - Cosworth V6 Turbo
I wouldn't use T/C anyway graham, apart from the fact that its cheating and easily spotted (sensors on each hub?) it also would make things even more complicated to wire and map and keeping things simple is the most important thing right now!
Anti-lag also is more suited to other applications and can be very bad for the health of everything under the bonnet.
If we don't use sequential injection wont it just dump the same fuel down all 6 pots all the time? Surely this will use a load more fuel and mean there is unburnt petrol on the pistons that aren't firing? Or am I understanding the whole thing wrong ???

going sequential injection only benifits in terms of exhaust emissions, not power, you end up with the same amount of fuel in the engine, just if you run sequentially you may need bigger injectors as you have fewer injection pulses so the injectors will have to flow more fuel, plus the added complication you will have to run a cam sensor so the ecu nows which phase the engine is in, sometimes non sequential will give a bit more power as the fuel will cool the backs of the inlet valves more and thus they wont heat up the incoming charge as much.
i know what you are saying about non sequential throwing fuel in, but it doesnt work like that if it did a carburettor engine would never work properly
personally i think its a good thing on a cat equiped emission consous road car, but waste of time on a race car
Re: David White's - Mk2 Escort - Cosworth V6 Turbo
Cheers Graham I'm learning all the time about these things and I just want to get a decent set up on the car from the beginning so that theres moe racing and less tinkering / repairing later on.
Any ideas which model of emerald ecu it would be for mine?
