Sort of! Its been one of those emotional days!

Dropped it in first time, the block was hitting the steering column, so lifted it out and cut off the offending item. Then dropped it back in, and then the oil pump is slightly longer than the old one, and its hitting the triangle plate on the engine mount. So back out it came to chop the corner off.

So this time.......... not straight away! Spent about an hour and a half trying to get the drivers side bolt through the mount and the brackets on the chassis. Having left the inlet manifold on as per instructions from John, this was quite difficult as you need to twist the rubber inside the mount to get both ends of the rubber to line up to get the bolt through. So after throwing things i headed to the chip shop for comfort food!

Came back and Darren had decided to do it round the other way, ie drivers side in first then battle with the passenger one, as theres more room to hit, bang, and lever the mount that side! Finally got that sorted, but i think long term i need some new mounts made as its such a ball ache!

Then spent the rest of the afternoon cleaning out the new oil hoses with brake cleaner and the air line. This also involved battling with getting the fittings on the ends. But a little tip from Matt, and we got them all done. Glad we have clean out all the new hoses and the fittings as we emptied out jug of brake cleaner onto some blue roll and we were astonished as to how much crap we got out. So it feels like we've had a crap day, but that kind of made it more satisfying and worth while.

Thats as far as we got today.

          Re: My MK2 Rally car

And as we all love pics!

Got the clutch on before we dropped in into place

"Darren do you want some chips??"

          "CHIPS?!"

          Nice bit of trumpet action...

Get some fuel down those beauties...

And as we left it tonight, forgot that we got the exhaust manifold on as well

Excellent work Paul - I know that feeling about having a crap day and yet somehow still feeling satisfied

When will you have it fired up? I bet it's going to sound the business!

                Cheers

                  Re: My MK2 Rally car

                  Thanks guys!

Well today she was in and fired her up! Got the gearbox back in, clutch cylinder back on, re plumbed in the fuel lines as i now have a new pressure regulator, which we fixed to the inner wing. Got the rad in and filled up, exhaust system on.

I did take a video, but as there is so much to worry about (leaks oil pressure etc) when you first start an engine, the phone was on the wrong setting so it sounds and looks awful. Next time i will take a better video and use the in car camera as well.

Still a few things now to sort before the next rally, but we've made a big leap forward and boy does is sound like an animal!

I will order a new two piece prop shaft tomorrow and then need to sort the brakes out (things are happening behind the scenes with these). Still need a throttle linkage as well.

All in all a good day

Excellent news Paul - although I now have more concerns about my radiator plans having looked at your pic in detail

                      So, next event?

Do you want some more pics of my rad? What are your concerns?

I'm aiming for Down Ampney in April. Just waiting for the regs to come out.

Also i'm not sure about the front ride height as even with the new shorter springs wound right down it doesnt look any lower? Hopefully it will settle with the engine now in it.

                            Re: My MK2 Rally car

Thanks Paul - I've actually ordered a "dummy" radiator that should be with me this week (hopefully before I'm away again). It will have no outlets fitted, so I can test the basic fit, and then hopefully mark up exactly the position/angles of outlets.

If it doesn't fit - I'm worried about the height clearance because of my custom front panel - then it's back to the drawing board

Nice bit of kit - even if i say so myself! Nice two piece prop, just need to work out which way it goes round and how to fix the centre bearing and to what

The entry is in for the Get It Sideways at Down Ampney
