Yep, 60G. Only a matter of time until it breaks! Hows your rebuild going Rich? I see you were asking belts on the BRF - i highly recomend titon from Prima motorsport. Excellent value for money, a really nice belt and work fine with HANS. PM me if your interested.

Regarding the ignition fuse, I bought a universal Rebel Wire loom kit when I was doing my car, and it didn’t fuse the ignition switch feed, but it did have a fusable link, which is basically a slow burning fuse, I’ve kept this link, but I might remove it in the future and replace it with a high ampage fuse, because if it blows it would put me out of a rally. Id be interested to know does a professional rally loom have a fuse or a fusable link.
I'm no expert but I have done them both ways for peoples rally cars.

Modern cars have a fuseable link on the main battery feed but I have never put one in an escort (just rely on manually switching the battery cut-off switch in an emergency).

For cars with ECU's I normally use a good quality 'pop out' circuit breaker to protect the unit. if it blows, just reset it & if it blows again you have an issue that needs sorting.
On the last car I did (a serious car in the British Rally Championship) I wired in a 'fuse bypass' for the ECU via an aircraft style switch. The logic being that if the rally or championship depended on it you could risk killing the ECU!

For cars with normal points/lumention I normally wire the ignition un-fused via the key or ignition switch.

I'll bear that in mind Paul.

The build of my car is coming along quite well.

We lost a week with a delay on the supply of the cage, but the shell is being collected tomorrow (Sunday) lunch time to be taken to the spray shop.

          Re: My MK2 Rally car

Well i had friday off last week for a long weekend on the car. I have now finished pulling in all the cables, and i have tied it all together in a loom fashion. I hope i have thought of everything and it will all work!! I have taken the cables out now and the next job is to cover it in over braid and heat shrink, then label every connector up with the yellow ends. Also the console needs trimming and fitting up with the pop out fuses and switches.

This weekend coming i am up to Stoneleigh park for the Race and Retro show as my friend has got a trade stand up there and he will have his Subaru WRC 12b Impreza on the stand.

So come and say hello if you are going.

                  Re: My MK2 Rally car

Seems a long time i have updated this one.

I have now finished covering all the loom and heat shrinking it up. Its surprising how long it takes. Its all now fitted in the car and connected up. Next up was the console fitting. Firstly i trimmed it to the correct angle to suit the tunnel.

Then i cut the hole for the gearstick which centralised the console. Then the hole for the handbrake was cut, and then sat in the seat to work out where it was best to fit the switches etc. These took some planning so that there was enough clearance on the handbrake cylinder etc.

Powered it all up and switch one thing on at time. I instantly cooked the resistor for the kill switch!! That always happens to me! So threw that away It all seems to work, few things to double check on, but very happy with the wiring, it was worth it all in the end.

Does anyone know if the quaife sequential display provides a switch live for the reverse lights? I've tried phoning Neil from Geartronics today but no answer. Not that i need reverse lights but would be nice to have them working.

Also got the engine fired up today and drove it out the garage Hoping to get it on the rollers tomorrow for a bit of a tune up.

Sorry the photos are a bit grainy. I will get some more tomorrow.

                    Re: My MK2 Rally car

Oh and i've knocked Monteberg on the head, as it is a long way to go with an un proven car. My mate the other weekend went out of a rally due to a dodgy crank sensor which costs about 20 quid. It made me think that i would be seriously hacked off if i went all that way and it happened to me! I have booked the mot for the 14th April and entered the Get It Sideways rally at Down Ampney on the 21st April. Its all go go go !!

                            Re: My MK2 Rally car

Thanks Gary & James Be nice to meet you James pop over and say Hi - you might get roped into changing some wheels!

I've sorted the yellow wire scenario - spoke to Neil today and i switches a relay to switch the reverse lights. So that can wait till another day. Got all the spot lights wired up and on with the flash and main beam You can't own a mk2 and not dangle cibies off the front of it!

Fitted up the boot, just got the jack to fit in the drivers rear boot well. and thats finished. You can just make out the led boot light in the centre on the parcel shelf.

Fitted the passenger seat today - hope fully for the last time! Got a the belts in and fitted. (if any one needs some new harnesses then give me a shout for some Titon ones)

And one more of the dash all lit up - just because i think it looks cool
