Well i've bought a new engine which has an omex ecu so that will control the flat shift now.

Now i am getting to the end of the project i am digging out the bits that i have accumulated but am not going to use - Sebtrab oil cooler and hoses, rear bilstein coilovers, flat shift ecu - i've got a few other bits but i can't think what they are right now! Oh and the engine thats in the car now!

Shakedown will be after the MOT & RR a week tomorrow! Then rally the following sat!

I really do love that centre consul you have made, great workmanship.

So spill the beans on the new engine spec, I assume it's still a Luton taxi lump just a newer better version?

Does the Omex has a prevision the calibrate the force from the gear stick load cell?

So very glad to see you near to being able to reap the fruits of your labour and skinned knuckles!!

It made me think that i would be seriously hacked off if i went all that way and it happened to me! Hi Paul,

I'll be at Down Ampney servicing for some friends so if you need a hand with anything, let me know

Hope it goes as well as it looks

Thanks Matt - like my mate said to me when we finished it "you wouldn't believe we made that!

Still the Luton Lump i'm afraid, but a JRE one Not sure on that one with the load cell, i have got a rolling road session on Saturday so i will ask the guy then.

Should be fun when its in! I've given it a coat of engine paint, well two actually! Going to change the water pump and cam belt, not sure if i will get it in before Down Ampney though.

I'll be there with Martin and Georgina Clark looking after their 1400cc MG ZR

I did Down Ampney for the first time last year, very enjoyable

There's some in car on my thread from the Corinium last year, but each club runs different layouts

                Re: My MK2 Rally car

Morning all!! To say i am a happy chappy is an understatement! Yesterday it passed its mot, and i got it taxed and did a few miles on the road, probably about 20 or so as all my sons mates wanted a little passenger ride - and who was i to say no!! lol.

I need to get a new steering rack for it before next weekend. Where is the best place to get a new quick rack from then? Gavin - does Barney still make his bomb proof bronze bushed jobbies?

The clutch is slipping, so about 4.30 yesterday it was decided that the engine was coming out and the new BIG BANGER was going in ! (a motivational speech from Matt helped my decision. It involved him being bigger than me and a slap!) Thanks for all your help yesterday on the technical hot line Matt - your a star

We got it on the rollers yesterday and it now idles lovely and starts on the button. All is well inside the engine as the guy listened to the engine with a knock sensor. We couldn't get a full power run as the clutch was slipping, which might be due to it needing a clean up as its been sat in the car for a couple of years now so it might just be cover in a light layer of rust?

Here is a picture of it in the booth!

Off to take it out now and get the new one in. The seeding has been done for Down Ampney next week, http://www.cheltmc.com/gis2012/gis2012.htm and i am seeded behind a Historic Cortina and a 1400 Nova at car 27, so that has helped me relax a bit, taken some pressure off and i am now in the frame of mind that it will be a full shakedown and test to see whats what and what will need changing. If anyone is going pop over and say hello and introduce your self

The graphics man turned up last night and worked his magic - to say i am chuffed is an under statement! I've got to take some better pics today in the day light, but Matt or Gary might upload a cheeky preview!

It feels that it has all come together in the last few weeks and the last three years of highs and lows anv been worth it.

Must dash - got an engine to change!

Brilliant news mate and I'm only pleased to help when I can.

Car looks great in the plain white but the new graphics just turns it into a proper rally car ready for your first outing next week. I'll let you savour the glory unless you specifically want me to load a pic of the finished graphics??

Well done and the new engine will be the icing on the cake

As far as I know all the 24mm HD racks sold by the rally spares places are the same ones that Barney's people sell - there's just different prices for them

Well not long been in since trying to get the new engine in - been a tough day but getting there. It will have to be finished off tomorrow night now.

I gave her a quick wash this morning and took these pics before the old engine came out.

I hope you all like it as much as i do. I think it really finishes off the car a treat
