A quick before and after! The top photo is when it was on the leaf springs when i first put it back together. I have learnt since that you should tighten the U bolts on the leafs when it is all sat on the deck and not up in the air! Which won't be helping its "safari" look ride height!

Off to get the trailer then its off to Weston for some biscuits!

See you in a few hours James

Likewise! Thanks Paul, its coming along slowly. Steep learning curve now the cars got more grunt.

Just seen your post on BRF, i'll go and find your thread and give it a little bump! bit jealous you might be heading to Belgium! Put me down for service though if you do go

It's a cracking car, are you doing any rallies in the south west over the next season ?

Thanks Mitchy. Thats the plan. Although i have been thinking about what events to do next year, and i'm struggling to think of any that i want to do in the first half of the year! Long time to wait till Fat Albert again.

                      Re: My MK2 Rally car

Well not much of an update but gave the car a clean today. Still finding mud from Down Ampney! Cleaned out the inside, gave it a little hoover and then pulled in new oil pipes from the boot into the engine bay. Ive bought new hoses as i don't think its worth the risk, as for what the rebuild is costing me, it seemed silly to try and clean out the old hoses.

Then i gave a set of new bumpers a coat of black paint. I've had these for what seems like an age. Its been on the list of jobs that i have been meaning to do, the back bumper has been cracked on one of the corners and, for the eagle eyed of you, the front two are different sizes!

I've been a bit tarty and indulged in a tractive gear display - its the closest i will come to having a tractive box! Just need to work out how to mount it to the dash.

Back out tomorrow to fit a new steering rack and finish putting the petrol tank back in and the boot back together I might try and fit my new 300lb front springs as well.

                      :santa:

                        Hi Paul,
Keep plugging away, right a list of jobs that need doing and work your way through it, any news on the engine?
Have heard that WSM can't run anymore rally sprints as the airfield has gone now, will let you know if that changes,
                        Cheers,
                        James

                          Re: My MK2 Rally car

Thanks James, the list i have is never ending! But hey thats part of the fun!

The engine completion date keeps moving back! It was going to be done by 3 weeks about 6 weeks ago! Last week i spoke to him and he said it might be ready between Christmas and new year. So i thought in the mean time i will keep crossing off jobs on the list!

Thats a real shame about the rallysprint. I think my first event i will aim for is Bovington in March.

Are you going up to Brean at all James?

                            Re: My MK2 Rally car

Yep, going to Brean, been a few years since I have been, servicing for a guy called Tony that I built a mk1 shell for, really looking forward to it!
Hate to add to your list but had a thought about yours, you may already know, but now your box has had the modification and now has a flange do you know need to have a split prop as either end of the prop is fixed, normally the prop slides in the back of box as the axle moves with suspension travel?
                            Cheers,
                            James

Well the prop is on the list, but only to fit a new flange on to the gear box end. Do i need i two piece prop then? With a uj in the middle? My mate Geoff ran his with a single prop, but thinking about it he did suffer with vibration problems
