    Re: Ford Fiesta Race Car

Welll done on getting it all back together. It looks great - personally i think you should go for black wheels all round. The standard of the build looks fantastic.

The orange jackets on your fluid resivoirs - are they something like ipod covers or specially made??

            Re: Ford Fiesta Race Car

Qualifying went really well, although it wasnt handling as I would have liked having alot of understeer, I managed to do a 1.18.5 before someone dumped their sump of oil on the track, which turned out to be 2 tenths off class pole and 7th overall on the grid. I was feeling very confident for the race with a few setup changes.

I managed an awsome start and grabbed the class lead off the line, but by the time I hit 3rd gear it was all over. It started to loose power dramatically and ran like I had put a pit limiter on it. Thankfully everyone missed me and I pulled off safely after the first corner.

It was quickly diagnosed as a crank sensor failure, but it was caused by the pulse ring failing. As such I am having a new flywheel made with an integral pulse ring rather than extra bolt on piece.

This sums up this meeting rather well:

Bring on round 2 on Bank Holiday Monday 3rd April. Feel like I have a point to prove now!

Shame about the DNF, the car is looking very promising for the future though

                  Re: Ford Fiesta Race Car

The pace I had considering the lack of running is very ominous for my rivals. I'm very much looking forward to see what it can do after some decent testing before the next round.

Shame how it turned out at the first round, at least it can only get better!
What did the engine manage on the rollers by the way? How does it compare to last year?

                            Re: Ford Fiesta Race Car

Have also designed a new throttle pedal so I can reconnect the bias adjuster cable on the brake balance bar.

With the formula ford throttle pedal it was designed for a balance bar further up the brake pedal, so the adjuster clashed with the throttle when pressing the brake.

When I orginally installed the pedal box I also had to add a throttle return stop, which was supposed to be a short term pikey solution, as it also interferes with this area.

As such I have designed in a vertical face on the front edge of the pedal which will have an adjustable throttle return stop acting against it, which will be mounted horizontally from the pedal mounting frame. I have also cut away the rear of the pedal to get more travel as I am only just getting full throttle with the current pedal with the throttle stop removed, I would like to have some safety adjustability. I have also made it slightly longer and brought the radius of the curve more in line with the foots movement off the brake pedal to ease heal and toe action.

Will have to wait a while to get it made though unfortunately due to funds and the machinist is off work for a while.
