Re: My MK2 Rally car
At the weekend i stripped down my front struts. Can any one tell me how i know what inserts and spring rates i have?
For some reason i thought on the springs it would be stamped in the top of the spring. I cleaned it up with the wire brush in the grinder, but alas nothingComment

If the car was working well, then just leave it how it is

Re: My MK2 Rally car
ok, i've had and on/off releationship with the car over the last few months. But today i've had a productive day on it. I'll get some pics tomorrow to whack up.
One problem i've had today is with the fuel lines. I was running them in throught the car and, like everything else, i've decided to change the route of them and add some -6 goodridge bulkhead fittings. How ever the -6 fittings that i have bought at too big for the braided hose. The hose was already in the car before the rebuild, and has "goodridge" style fittings. The new fittings i've got, once tightened up, they just pull off.
I can't work out why the hose, which had a fitting on the fuel pump end and one on the fule power booster thing. So all i've done is cut it at the engine bulkhead, fitting a goodridge -6 bulkhead fitting, and then attempted to fit a straight -6 fitting inside the car and a 90 degree in the engine bay.
I took one of the originals apart and it had what looked like an olive inside it. I was hoping to get it running this week, so if any one has some idea on whats occuring - i'd be gratefull.Comment

Hi Paul - the bulkhead fitting issue sounds like you maybe have fittings for teflon-lined hose, and are using ruber-lined hose? Or vica versa?
Its looking almost car-like again though!! Keep it up

Re: My MK2 Rally car
Thanks Paul, i sorted it in the end with the fittings i had and some rubber hose in the engine bay. A job on the "to sort out" list!!
Made good progress today, got most of the dash back in, mounted the gear indicator. But not where its staying though. Mounted the handbrake and clipped the fuel, brake and sump hoses. Really trying hard to get it ready for Monteberg. Its going to be a late night tomorrow to finish it off for the MOT saturday.
Your car looks fantastic Paul, i can't wait to get mine going so i can appreciate the noise from the box! Have you posted an entry for Abingdon yet??

Re: My MK2 Rally car
Well i spoke to one of the Steves today at track and road - not that i know which one! Its not a problem running the bottom end in and setting the geartronics flat shift up.
He started asking questions about what cams, pistons, rods, injectors its got - i started to get a bit lost then. I need to see if i've got disc injectors in it?!
He thinks my MBE ECU is about 20 years old, so i'm now looking into maybe upgrading it. But i don't know if i'd gain anything from itI've got a feeling i'm going to be disapointed with how much power its got when i do take it up there, which is why i'm thinking i should upgrade the ECU so its better to squeeze more power out of it later??
I sent the throttle bodies off to jenvy today for a quick check over. I think i'm going to get an oil cooler to fit in the oil system as the oil tank in the boot gets bloody hot when its used. Has anyone got some pictures of where and how they mount their coolers?Comment

Re: My MK2 Rally car
If the ECU is mapped properly, upgrading it won't change the power much, maybe smooth out the throttle response a bit due to increased load sites, but I doubt you would get more power. (note I am no expert)sigpic

Re: My MK2 Rally car
i'd agree, if the map in the old ecu is right upgrading to a newer one wont gain you any powerComment
