Written a new map for the ECU tonight. I've used my Zetec map as the basis. Should run a lot better when I try it again at the weekend. Time to relax now. 8-)
No leaks from the oil or water, and the garage stinks of exhaust, so I'll run it with the doors open next time. Didn't want to wake the kids last night...

Nice one Graham, everything looks perfect as usual, good luck with the map, sounds like its very rich I would try taking 10% - 15% fuel out and see what happens

The map I tried on Monday was the base Zetec map supplied with the ECU. Last night I loaded the tried and tested 2.0 Zetec map from the E48 ECU (my previous engine and ECU), and tweaked it for sequential coil and injectors etc. I'll stick that in the ECU tonight. Should run a lot better when I try again on Saturday.
There were a significant number of cam errors reported by the ECU following the 20 seconds I ran the engine for on Monday. Over 600 errors.
Spoke to Allan at DTA and he reinforced that the ECU casing must be earthed, which it was, although not to the earth Stud on the casing. I've rewired the earth to remedy that.
I'll try another oscilloscope view tonight to see if the signal has improved. I'm told that DTA ECU's are really sensitive when it comes to cam and crank sensor wiring, which is why I used shielded cabling for them.
Presently it looks like this, which seems OK according to their blurb. The cable is shielded, and grounded at the ECU using the drain wire of the cable. The sensor is wired so that pin 1 provides the signal from the magnetic sensor, and pin 2 is grounded, which I believe is how the Ford sensors should be wired. The crank sensor is wired exactly the same way and the engine runs, but the number of cam errors indicates a problem. Maybe the earthing of the ECU case will fix it?
The new map is in this directory, called Zetecinside Duratec.map
This is the one I'll load tonight.

The engine was stalling and the cam errors often occur when you start and stop an engine (low VR), if its just logging errors your best to take a count with the engine running and watch it while its running to see if the counter increments.

Yes, the shield wire is only earthed at the ECU end.
I've fitted a new Focus cam cover, but retained the cam sensor from the Fiesta ST cover.
I'll check the depth of the sensor when mounted on either cover (as I've retained the ST cover) to make sure that the sensor is the same distance from the trigger lobe as it was with the ST cover. I have no oscilloscope trace from when the ST cover was fitted. The sensor is turned through 90 degrees on the new cover, should that make any difference?
The trace from the cam sensor looks OK according to the examples in the DTA manual...
Does anyone have a DTA cam sensor trace from a Duratec so I can compare the two?
Thanks Clint. If the errors have occured when cranking, that'll explain why the ECU doesn't switch to sequential until 800rpm is achieved. I'll zero them again, and watch the laptop screen whilst attempting to start the engine. Could do with a second pair of eyes.... Anyone fancy giving me a hand at the weekend? 8-) Wifey makes an excellent brew.

The cam sensor position is identical on both cam covers.
What's the right plug gap for a duratec, anyone know?
The plugs are all of the same black sooty appearance.

I've now re-run the oscilloscope view, and the cam sensor signal does appear a little smoother as it captures the data.
But I do see cam sensor errors when cranking (without igntion) so as said previously, it's the errors counted when the engine's running that count.
Here's the oscilloscope view. I've set the crank sensor position in General Settings to 76 Deg BTDC as per the settings shown on this screen. (it was 83 when I ran it on Monday, which may account for the spitback on startup)
The new map is now loaded, and I've reset the throttle stops and a couple of other settings. Next fire up at the weekend or Friday afternoon if I get time off for good behaviour 8-)
