Had a quick chat with Steve, seemed very busy.
I'll investigate fitting an idler pulley by myself. Looks simple enough.

I had a quick chat with Dave Walker too. He said he hates tuning cars without thermostats, because they dont maintain a stable working temperature.

He also said that the water temperature needs to be set to around 90-95C, as mine is at the moment, and he said that 80C was too low. Some Rovers run at 100+

Sold my unused heated windscreen (i'm going to fit a plastic one), and TAS rear arms and panhard rod today. Another £320 towards the gearbox

Just the GpA driveshafts left to sell.

Paid for the sequential gearbox today, after raiding the piggy bank.
                    Delivery next week some time.

Superb Graham, it'll be great to get that in for the first use in anger, it'll be pretty much as you'd hoped when you started this install. All except the 300bhp ;-)

Does your ECU have flatshift capability? Got to get that setup at the same time it's great and when setup right looks after your gearbox.

                      Nice one mate.

Yeah, was going to ask how yours worked Matt.
My ecu has an input to support flat shift, but I need some electronics for it to work.
Strain gauge or pressure sensor on the lever or cable I guess.

Re: Grahamb's Mk1 Fiesta XR2 Duratec HE Hillclimber

Rewired my fuse/relay control box to allow me to push a button that operates the fuel pump. This lets me prime the system, as it can take a few seconds turning the engine over to get full fuel pressure. When the ecu is powered up, it runs the pump for a second, and then turns the pump off whilst the engine isnt running. This isnt long enough to prime the system. Full fuel pressure takes a while to build from scratch. Once warmed up, the engine starts first time, as the rail retains the pressure. But a week later, the pressure goes, and this mod allows me to push the button down for 5seconds or so, prior to turning the engine over.

Also added a switch to the DTA S80 cable, so I can now flash the ECU with the latest firmware. (19/01/2011 vsn 58 is available)

Re: Grahamb's Mk1 Fiesta XR2 Duratec HE Hillclimber

The Quaife sequential dog box arrived today.

The selector cable goes to the front of the box, in roughly the same place as the selector on the std IB5+, so that's a real bonus as I was worried where it was going to sit on the box.

Its come with a brand new 7 segment display (in the Jiffy bag), but I already have the www.geartronics.co.uk display, so I'll weigh up which is best and fit the right one.

I'll need to remove the existing Mk7 gear selector from inside the car, and see how to fit the sequential shifter lever. The lever is quite short, so I may have to fabricate a cage for it to sit on, to raise it up.

They also chucked in a couple of T-Shirts, and a new sun strip for the Fiesta. Shame about the new rule on 13cm tall 'adverts' on clear surfaces. Or does that count on a sunstrip? Sod it, who cares anyway?

I'm confident that I can make this work in my Mk1. Just need to get my arse outside to start swapping it all over. What blows me away, is how tiny the Quaife box is! Its a great bit of engineering.

I believe that they've only made two of these boxes, one went to Ford and this is the one from the ST demonstrator, or vice versa. Rarer than hens teeth!
