Re: Grahamb's Mk1 Fiesta XR2 Duratec HE Hillclimber

Booked the Fiesta in at Northampton Motorsport on June 14th for a good going over. Expecting more than 200BHP this time. Ordered another 5litres of 10W60, and a couple of other bits from DT today. A fuel pressure gauge to so I can keep an eye on the pressure, and a mechanical fuel pump to allow me to fill the tank in the Fiesta more safely than struggling with the weight of a 20 litre Jerry Can.

Spent an age trying to get the suspension to align last night. It still hits the gearbox, and I had to move the strut tops out on both sides to cancel out the -ve camber. NHM will have a good challenge on their hands to get the suspension sorted out this time.

good stuff, but have you actually changed anything that will give you more power?

It's now running the straight cut gearbox, and I have fixed the overheating problem, and fitted ARP rod bolts so the upper RPM limit can be raised from 7000 to 7400, or higher.

ok, it wil be interesting to see if you've gained anything, you might have a bit more power at the wheels from the gearbox but as the rollers meassure run down losses the flywheel fig shouldnt change as a result of the straightcut gears

Higher rev llimit will propably help if the engine made peak power at the limiter earlier

engine looks good in the engine bay dept be interesting to see if you do get a gain with the straight cut gears somebody was talking about the other day was saying i think it was betwwen 2/ 3 bhp might have been 4 i just fitted s/cut 4 speed rocket box rwd and the same clutch plate that you have there took a few runs round before it seemed to bed in seems fine now though good clutch plate, noticed a big difference no slippage what so ever now hope yours go well for you sb

Re: Grahamb's Mk1 Fiesta XR2 Duratec HE Hillclimber

Thanks for the feedback regarding the clutch. I still haven't driven my car yet, wont get to know what its like bite-point wise until the weekend.

Peak power wasn't reached when we set the limiter to 7000rpm, but Troy had to keep aborting anyways as the water temperature kept going off the clock. Removing the thermostat seems to have cured that particular problem. But thats now compounded by the engine not holding steady at a set temperature, but with some careful temperature compensation adjustments, that shouldn't be too difficult to counteract.

And god knows how much louder it'll be with the dog box. It was loud enough before

Re: Grahamb's Mk1 Fiesta XR2 Duratec HE Hillclimber

Aintree acceptance came via email today for both events.
                    June 25th is the debut.

Driven the car this afternoon. Bite point feels lovely, and the gearbox goes in to gear very easily. It's a bit alien to me though, using a sequential for the very first time.

                      Great job Graham

You'll love the sequential, it will seem very natural quite quickly I expect, Almost to the point that it feels wierd driving an H pattern after a day in the car.

Have a good day at CF show

                        Much noisier with the gearbox?

Yes, but at least its the right noise now.
Drove it for a few mins at Santa Pod, and its an odd experience using a sequential.
Booked in next Tuesday (14th) at NMH for the rolling road session.

I'm entered in the Aintree sprint at June 25th, Llandow on July 16th, August Ford Fair with track time on August 7th, Retro Rides gathering at Prescott on August 21st, Harewood Hillclimb on August 28th, and Aintree again on September 3rd. Looking forward to all the outings

Fitted the JDM style Tow sticker from stickeroo (ebay)

Ford Puma 20.5mm rear axle spacers from coordsport

Fitted. I needed to get 8x 12.9 M10 socket head screws (£1.50 bargain), as the hex head ones wouldn't turn against the Fiesta axle.

15.5mm wider each side, as I no longer run the 5mm spacer that sat on the hub itself.

Just the passenger side left to do.

Re: Grahamb's Mk1 Fiesta XR2 Duratec HE Hillclimber

Great day at NHM yesterday, where Troy worked his magic on the engine map. No overheating issues any more, no dramas, not even a drop of oil on the floor.

198.9BHP and red line is now 7600rpm.

Suspension also aligned as best as we could.
                                -1.3 and -1.25 Camber
                                2.48 and 2.56 Caster
                                -.01 and -.03 Toe

We had to stick some cold fuel in around midday as power was dropping off, and the fuel lines were warm to the touch. No other issues. Another successful day at NHM.
