Altiss are making up a pair of running boards for the XR2. Should get them in the next week or two.


I'm hoping to get out to do around 5 events, and three shows again this year. Money is tight this year though, so I've got to pick and chose the events carefully.

I've entered the new Saloon Libre class in the Midland Speed Championship, which should attract more modified and engine swapped cars out on to the hills.

good stuff, one question though whats the point of the running boards? they look too far off the ground to be of any areo use

Theoretically, if I prevent the air passing underneath from washing out the sides of the car, I can use the air to assist with an Increase in downforce. I'll be lowering the car further, and using flexible door draught exclude rubber strips underneath.

Rear slots/louvre progress.



These have been sprayed on to the rear wheelarch. I made a template by using Powerpoint to position the shapes, then printed to A4, sealed the paper with wide clear tape, then cut the shapes out using a new stanley knife blade. Then it was a case of taping the template to the wheel arch, and masking the rest of the bodywork out. A quick couple of passes with the rattle can and then remove the template and paper, and this is what is left.

I can now clearly see how they'll look, and I just need to carefully cut the black sections out using the dremel to turn them in to slots.

Ordered a Jaz fuel cell from Raldes. http://www.rallydesign.co.uk/product...oducts_id=1867
Gone for the 5 gallon version, as its only 13"x13"x8" and should weigh a lot less than the 30litre ATL saver D-cell.

I'll sell the 30 litre ATL D-cell on ebay I cant use it any more as it has exceeded the lifespan for plastic fuel tanks, and is a bit too big for what I need now anyway. Not that anyone has ever asked about the age of my fuel cell....

air gets trapped inside the wheel tubs and creates drag, the louvres let this all out and helps reduce drag. or something along those lines.

I picked up the Best Prepared Car award from the Midland Speed Championship on Saturday evening. Its the 2nd time I've won, the first time was back in 2003 when it was first awarded, in honour of the late Tony Higgins.



Very pleased that all the hard work paid off.


A new Bosch 044 pump turned up today, together with various adaptors and fittings. I'm currently fitting a JAZ 5 gallon tank to replace the ATL D-Cell, which goes on to ebay tonight at 8pm with an 99p starting price.


It was £112 from raldes, and weighs 2.8Kg dry, which is approx 6 Kg lighter than the old ATL cell it replaces.

Making my own brackets in aluminium saves 1Kg over the weight of the standard brackets. (464g vs 1.48Kg)

Running boards now safely tucked away in the garage. Very pleased with them. I'm going to use s/s q/r sliding latches to hold them on, so I can remove them when loading / unloading the car from the trailer.

Bare with me a minute Graham, i'll be brief, I read your post the other day re-the best prepared car award, and today I have been looking out some old pictures, when I came across some pics of one of the best ever Mini's in the world, then it clicked. We got very freindly in the mid nineties with the owner of said Mini, as we used to do loads of events at Curborough and the like, Tony Higgins! one of the nicest men in Motorsport and a great loss, unbelievable that it is over ten years since he passed away. I will scan and post the pics of his car sometime, well done on the award, a credit to you and your work.
