Re: Grahamb's Mk1 Fiesta XR2 Duratec HE Hillclimber

I'm using the M-Sport engine and gearbox mounts from the GpN Sporting Trophy Mk6 Fiesta, about £500 for the pair.
No problems so far with the install.

I'm on track at FordFair on sunday morning, 9:20am. Then on the ClassicFord '30 years of the XR' stand for the rest of the day.

Retro Rides Gathering at Prescott today. Never been before, a great track, and the organisation was superb.

Didn't need to wear helmets, or even cover arms or legs.

      Practice run in the morning

My four fast runs in the afternoon, back to back.

                    Be my guest

Nice to hear all the comments, and great to meet you too Trig. I still think people dont expect very much from Fiesta's and I'm continuing to push the boundaries to show that its just as good as anything else Ford has made in the past 35 years, if not better

Re: Grahamb's Mk1 Fiesta XR2 Duratec HE Hillclimber

Gosh what a busy August/September. I ran at Harewood in the cold but dry Yorkshire air, Aintree in the damp, and then Loton Park on Sep 11th in the dry, and had a hell of a lot of fun. Unfortunately, thats it for me for this year, end of season and all that, so now its a case of refreshing/lifing components on the car, starting with the fuel system, so I'll keep you posted on how that goes.

I won the Sports Libre class in the Midland Speed Championships, and I get to collect a rather large trophy at the awards dinner next year.

Speaking of next year, there is talk of a Saloon Libre class, which I may enter, or I may just bight the bullet and run in Mod Prod and see if anyone objects to my Fiesta engined Fiesta. Time will tell.

Plans for the winter are to install the four wheel speed sensors to limit wheel spin off the line. I'm also fitting the geartronics flat shift system so I can make some cleaner gear changes (the paddle clutch is very unforgiving). The engine itself wont be touched, 200bhp is more than enough, but I will be asking Quaife to raise the 5th gear ratio, but not the final drive as that appears to be spot on at most venues.

So the box has to come out, but thats a job for October/November.

I'm also moving up to wider rims and tyres for 2012, and a quick rack is going to be built, as the std rack has been a real hindrance with some of the twistier hillclimbs.

So all in all, a 100% reliability record with the electronics and drive train, I've only had a single issue at the first event with the engine steady bar breaking (my fault for not leaving enough weld on it when I ground it back), and a broken front strut which thankfully I spotted in time for the Loton hillclimb, so was able to buy a new pair the day before, and fit them (which completely ruined the geometry, but I did the best I could with my tools at Loton and shaved 3 seconds off my PB).

                                Roll on 2012
