I'm going to wrap them with red, possibly white vinyl. Paint is likely to chip.

Bolted the rear wing back on last night. I'll be changing the socket heads for button heads in due course.

Took an early lunch so I could roll it out.

120mm ground clearance with the running boards, and 230mm clearance from the front spoiler to the ground. I reckon it just needs another ally box section making up for the front spoiler now, >110mm tall, to make that the same height from the ground.

Rear end will get a diffuser. Mocked up the front end last night.

Rear wing is now at 12degrees, (as recommended by various 'experts' I've spoken to), and I've put a video blog together which shows the wing, running boards and the mocked up front end.

Finished the front panel last night. My arms ache from punching out 84 1" holes. The good news is that the grill is super lightweight now, with all the holes in it.


My new toy



Marking out the hole centres. I used Powerpoint to make the template. These are spaced 35mm apart. Use a hole punch to mark the centres and remove the paper.


Start off with 3mm pilot holes, using the laser to align the hole centres with the tip of the drill bit.


Next stage is to drill the holes out to 9.5mm so I can fit the hole punch in to every hole.


First half of the grill punched, and the second half drilled ready for punching.


Finished, now to offer it up to the XR2







The finished grill now needs to be attached to the body work. I'll be using some right angled tabs along the bottom edge to keep it true. Once these are drilled and fitted, I'll have the panel bead blasted, and painted satin black.

I was placed at risk of redundancy on Friday, so all plans to compete are now on hold until I've found myself gainful employment or at the very least, secured my job.
