Good as you're on the Entry List now

Got some more done over the New Year...

Made another Fly Off Handbrake out of a standard one and a small bit of 4mm plate for the locking mechanism (the standard part is too hard to drill through)

Bolted it inside with the hydraulic cylinder and the other handbrake

And the pedal box (thanks Clint ) now fits perfectly after jacking out the dent in the bulkhead, so the brakes are all plumbed in now

And I spent a few hours drilling holes in the engine bay so everything fits in the same place and I fitted the air horns & electric fan - wired them up and they work , bolted the reservoirs in place, cut a large hole for the throttle cables, fitted the ignition modules that trigger the coils and the headlights are in as well

Next weekend, Dave is coming down to help swap the engine and box from Fly

Looking good Gav. Do you think you'll have it all done in time?

        Plenty of time

Dave came down Friday night and we spent a very successful Saturday working on Fly and Dvy

Starting in the morning with the engine, box and dry sump tank and pipes in Fly, by lunchtime it was all out

Then the afternoon went even better, fed the oil pipes through from the boot to the engine bay (still full of oil and attached to the tank), dropped the engine in, got the gearbox lined up on the jack, I tilted the engine just the right amount, asked Dave to push and it slotted straight in, without any of the usual pushing and shoving

Then I drilled new holes for the gearbox mount through the floor (I think the original gearbox mount went to Jon with the first sequential box), while Dave fitted the starter, flywheel cover plate and clutch cable plate and we called it a day at 4:30 so Dave could get home at a sensible time

So big thanks to Dave for giving up his Saturday to help me out

          Re: GavinR's Mk2 Stage Car - DVY

Sunday I decided I would start at the front and work through to the back of Dvy, finishing everything as I went

So now the engine bay is 99% finished, just needing to seal the bulkhead where the oil pipes pass through and run the large cable to the starter, fill and bleed the brakes, but everything else is done, even the rad is full of antifreeze

The interior still needs some work - pedals, gearstick, gauges, cut out switch, seats, harnesses, etc

And the boot needs a bracket for the dry sump tank, the battery and the fuel tank from Fly

                Re: GavinR's Mk2 Stage Car - DVY

Got a couple of hours in this evening and fitted the throttle pedal

I was going to put Fly's clutch pedal in Dvy but I'd been worried for a few events about it twisting as I press it, and the new pedal box had come with a brand new clutch pedal, so I started with that and fabricated an identical one - they're offset so the clutch cable runs inside the manifold and doesn't melt

I also filled the brake system with fluid and pumped the pedal until fluid came out of the bleed nipples and left it like that, just need to do it properly when everything else is done

                    Re: GavinR's Mk2 Stage Car - DVY

The plan for this weekend was to get DVY running, and at 8pm tonight she was running

Still got a long list of jobs to do before Goodwood and a few evenings work this week before the MOT next Saturday

Finishing touch to the engine bay - a nice Ralloy strut brace

A lot of progress inside - fitted the extra gauges, made a panel for the cut out switch, clipped the fuel pipe and battery cable to the tunnel and fitted the gearstick and display. The seating position needs a bit of work though

And the boot with Fly's fuel tank and pumps, mounted on the tank base that Rupert had fitted. Battery needs bolting down and a bracket making for the dry sump tank

Jeez you don't hang about do you...! Excellent work.

Looks like we're working to the same project plan... I also had mine running at the weekend and am planning to MOT it on Saturday.

                        Re: GavinR's Mk2 Stage Car - DVY

After a busy week, DVY was finally ready for the MOT so I trailered her over to Melvyn's and she passed without any trouble

Then I went to see Carrie and Guy who spent the rest of the day helping apply the stripes and we got both sides done

Back home today I did the roof and took some pics and DVY now looks like DVY again, not just a plain white Escort

Still a few jobs to do before the rally, including lowering the rear by about 3" and the front by 1", and David might appreciate a seat as well
