Re: Paul Alex's Honda-powered tarmac rally Escort
Car looked amazing Paul, interior especially looks great. Even sat in the garage that pedal box and sequential felt perfect, definately up to touring car standards. Can you get a std engine for now to get the car out again and maybe have something more serious being built up in the mean time?

The only problem is that now I've started looking at other options, a couple of them look very tempting

Re: Paul Alex's Honda-powered tarmac rally Escort
his last one was std ,that was the idea of cheap engine rebuids ,not all lost as the old unit is quite heavy and should weigh in nicely at the scrapyard, thought you might of had a spare under the bench at that price ,the wurry is that was a very low mile unit and still let goide want to know the cause before i was keen to bolt another one in mate ..good luck

Re: Paul Alex's Honda-powered tarmac rally Escort
heres my thoughts ... any other engine is going to cost, not only in itself but in instaling ...
Personally, what i would do is buy two rebuild kits.. buy another engine, rebuild both, and fit one.. use an abuse, that spare engine gets built with loads of assymbly lube, and plugged up.
The engine thats blown... its had a 'colourful' life, how many times has it been in and out? at any point it could have got a grain of sand in an open hole... its been around for a few years.. done an event, had a holiday, then did the trackday..
Paul, you've got a brillient track record, but I know you want to push the Escort, and pushing means an off may be in the future. At that point, the money saved by not going Duratec/ Anyotherengine, along with the 'return bigger and better' fund, builds 'PEPPERMINT No2'Comment

Re: Paul Alex's Honda-powered tarmac rally Escort
Hi Paul
Sorry to hear your bad news :-(
What has let go?
If the cylinders need boring you will struggle to find anyone wiling to do it because of the FRM cylinders.
I have just about every part you could think of for the Honda S2000 engine (2 complete engines in bits and a 3rd head)
I have done lots and lots of research on these regarding tuning and the most sensible route to go would be 2.3ltr, dont touch any of the american stuff (2.6-2.7 stroker kits) these are only good for drag racing and a 10-15 second run!!!
Speak with Ian at clockwise motion he really knows his stuff.
What oil pressure switch are you running in the block? 7psi honda one or 21psi after market?
Let me know if you need any help, I have learnt the hard way with these engines!!
Cheers

Sorry to hear the bad news about the engine Paul, your not having much luck but I'm sure that will change.
Gary's comment above makes sense!
Btw it's about time this thread had some updated pictures on it!! ;-)
Keep the Chin up and don't loose heart with her, you've come this far!

Re: Paul Alex's Honda-powered tarmac rally Escort
Cheers Dave - next time it's there you can take it out. We'll have the old one out in two weeks time and back ready to run within a week or two after that (the beauty of it being standard).
The only problem is that now I've started looking at other options, a couple of them look very tempting
Cheers,
Paul
I guess you gotta go with your heart in terms of future engine choices but unless the s2000 option is gonna prove to be really unreliable it has to be the best for now as a duratec would mean a fair few changes. Depends what you find has gone inside this one I suppose. Would be a pity if the S2000 has to go as it looks very at home in there now
