I have both types of grille so will no doubt try out both but my cossie one is a bit in need of tlc and the std base ones are great at a tenner new, and still very light. All the slots line up with my air intakes and cooler etc

Robwasanob, dont worry I didn't think it was harsh, just would like my cossie beater to look a bit different

Cheers dave...i wish you all the best with the Cosworth beating pinto..As Jon the Turks "2.3 HT Slide motec Big Spec Big Money'd Pinto" got his ass handed to him on a plate recently at snett..so hopefully you will put up a harder fight than that

Get it finished and come out to play

at snett davids got no chance against a cossy powered sierra due to the length of the straights, but at brands indy circuit or lydden, lighter weight, better weight distribution an an instant throttle response should give him the tools to do the job

Shine a light! Not been on here in a couple of months...Last thing I remember was the V6 being trial fitted and I've just come back to a transit engine! :p

Only joking, fella. As much as I'm not the Pintos biggest fan, I have a bit of a soft spot for single cam fours with huge intake runners on one side and a massive bunch of bananas on the other.

I must say I'm enjoying this build more than ever and I think the V6 would have made for another very complicated race car.
As a road engine the power would have been great but we have to consider future rebuild costs and running costs too so the pinto running in a lower class makes a lot of sense, and should be fun to drive with more power than my zetec escort and less weight (it wasn't that light then)

I've ordered a set of solid alloy rear beam mounts, so my next point of attack will be to do a small overhaul on all the suspension bushes etc

Re: DW's (new?) Sierra N/A PINTO race car

Finished fitting the new bonnet today, made some brackets to come off of the origional hinges and fitted M6 rivnuts. This means that the bonnet can be unbolted very quickly if needed and I fitted some nice cup washers and countersink bolts to spread the load a bit
Also fitted the bonnet pins, just gotta get another pair now, one for the front of the bonnet and another off of the strut brace if needed.

I then turned my attention to the rear of the car.
Fitted the LED rainlight into the back panel, and also removed all of the strengthening plates from behind it in the boot as they don't do anything now there isn't a heavy tailgate to slam down.

Then I fitted the tailgate using HD plastic hinges from rs and boot springs. I have got the angles right so they dont 'bind' the tailgate or bend it when lifting, plus you can also swing it right over and sit it on the roof where it is safe from gusts of wind.

I've hinged both the bonnet and boot because they are single skin and very light, so wouldn't really be safe if you removed the and left them off in the paddock, they'd either blow over, or away

I have a resistor for the light, I'll let you know what colour code it is, I can't remember off hand.

The bolts and washers, I've sort of borrowed them from a machine at work.
I'll have a look and see if I can order you any, or if not where to get them

Weight reduction continues (of the car at least ), today I helped(?, made coffee..) Gary lighten the drivers door so now I have a matching pair, well sort of if you ignore the colours

                            Cheers Gary
