What are the lengths of the short and long inserts? Or is that the 300 bit in the code? Also i would quite like it to cock its front wheel as well! Looks good for photos that lol !

I suppose the gartrac top mount is the equivalent of the rear turret extensions.

So does anyone know if i lengthen one, or both of the drop link on my front anti roll bar that will help stiffen up the front end?
I think 300 is compression absorption and 70 is rebound absorption or something like that

Have you got a pic of your anti-roll bar at the moment?

I think if you sort the front out, the rear will be fine

      Re: My MK2 Rally car

This is what i was recommended for tarmac rallying in Belgium, although i stayed with an ARB and non-coil over rear on the grounds of cost.

The chap who gave me this information runs this outfit and is a good friend.

He also runs Stefaan Stouf's car, and has assisted him in the winning of both the Roger Albert Clark and the Boucles de Spa, as whilst these are not tarmac, it adds credence to his ability and the information he has furnished me with.

      In Front/
-Tension strut set up is best(link bars must be tarmac specification)
-Bilstein front short tarmac legs ( We prefer the legs with ford casting stub axles)
      -Short bilstein 300/70 inserts.
-Use the small springs with a rate of 250 and 12 coils.
      -Adjustable tca's.
      -Tarmac steering arms.
      -Rose jointed top mounts.

      At the back/
-Coilovers with a 175 spring and 14 coils.
      -Dummy leaf
      -Watts

      The geometry is /
      -Castor 3°
      -Camber 2° Neg
      -Toe In 1mm

          Re: My MK2 Rally car

          Small update.

I have got my box back now after i decided to have the upgrade done. It changes the rear bronze bush that wears out and is replaced with two bearings and an output flange

I have also ordered the Grp4 fabrications rear turret extension kit - which should arrive next week and i have someone in mind on here to fit them for me, and tweak a couple of other bits. Just need to book it in when i get them next week.

            Hi Mate,

Awesome car. I really love the dash set up you have. Where did you get it or can you give me some idea of where to go to get one like it?

            Cheers

            Matt

Hi Matt, not noticed your post until now. If you mean the dials then they are SPA Design Dash. You can get it from Demon Tweeks here http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/motors...n-dash-display

              Thanks for your comments

                Re: My MK2 Rally car

Little update again, my rear turret extensions have turned up this week. Nice quality, but no idea what that little pin crimp thing is for! The website says "supplied with locator used when drilling out original turret" but i can't figure out how that will help in the slightest?! Any ideas??

I was expecting a larger lip as well, but i'm sure it will be fine.

I'm hoping i can get it booked in next month for these to be fitted, and a little bit of work on my watts towers.

I would think you would replace the drill in your hole saw with that pin as the std drill will be way to small to locate in the shock hole in your existing turrets

                  Nice car btw!

No probs Paul, yes been to castle combe rally day a few times now, I was going to do it again this year but the new date clashed with the family holiday.
I would love to do some more events, but sadly the funds are tight at the moment, plus thanks to the msa continually changing the rules I will have to spend a small fortune to make it stage legal again :-(

Hope you get your suspension problems sorted, I had a similar problem on mine when I looked at the pics from rockingham I found it was leaning badly but not quite as bad as yours, so after talking to mick squires I ended up fitting 50lb coil over helper springs as I still run slipper spings and i found it made a big difference and cornered a lot flatter.

                      Cheers
                      Steve

                        Re: My MK2 Rally car

Well my mate started talking about anti roll bar thickness on his 205 which he is doing some suspension mods on and is getting one made that 24mm thick. This got me thinking as to the dimension of mine. Ive had a measure up today and the one i have is 16mm. A quick look on Gartrac and they make them from 16mm up to 25mm thick. So i'm guessing uprating this would also be a good start.

What thickness have people got on your tarmac spec cars?

                          Re: My MK2 Rally car

I have 16mm on mine Paul but that is with a Tension strut setup. As the rollbar doesn't do the location duties any more with tension struts so it is commonly accepted that a smaller rollbar does the same job as a 21mm Standard type rollbar setup.

I'd say that if you have a 16mm on a standard TCA type setup that is way too soft, a standard RS2000 rollbar is 21mm if memory serves me right(its been a while since I've seen one)

Thanks Matt, i think i have tension struts though as well. The struts go from the TCA's and go forward to the front of the car? Compression go from the TCA, backwards to the chassis members? Have i got that right?

I am planning on starting with harder front springs first anyway, but it just got me thinking.

Yes that's right mate. So it's a remote anti roll bar with the drop links then?
You should be ok with that 16mm bar as long as your spring rates are closer to where they should be. You should have at least 275lb on the front for tarmac use with your XE that would do over Epynt or Otterburn. Maybe think of 300lb if you intend to keep to single venues or if like me you like a firmer setup, I use 300's but my engine is lighter than yours.

Today i dug the car out the garage, as its that time to clear out the garage..... again!

I have taken a couple of pics of the front anti roll bar.

Also i had a measure up of the front springs and i have ordered some 10" 300LB springs, so i will see how thats goes.
