Re: DW's (new?) Sierra N/A PINTO race car

Cheers Graham will check out that diff, but if as it says its a 7" and not a 7.5" it may not be strong enough as I've heard that the grip on slicks with rwd only kills them
They are Ok in caterfields but they are a fair bit lighter than my, as you pointed out, porky sierra

oh and also if we are doing a couple of VERY () fast circuits next year I might not want a 4.4 as I don't want to fiddle with the car more than necessary between races for the first year

No updates on the car yet but a big step on getting it done should take place this week and also the panels will be off to the paintshop.
Still cant decide whether to just fit fibreglass front wings yet, mine have a few dents and a bit of weight should be shed in the process, plus we'd make them quick to remove for when working on the car..

maybe, but you wont have more than about 170lbft torque at very best

oh and also if we are doing a couple of VERY () fast circuits next year I might not want a 4.4
with your projected power output your never going to be pulling 140+mph anywhere , you will have an overdrive 5th and dont forget touring car tyres have a pretty big rolling radius,

assuming something like a 0.7 overdrive 5th with 4.4 your have 140mph poteintial using 7,500rpm

given the choice of maybe slightly undergearing the car for a fast circuit or overgearing it for the rest, undergearing it is by far the best option, some of the lost top end will be made up for by the extra acceration,

its an extreme case but i recall watching a couple of metro 6R4's at brighton when they used to race over the half mile,

we heard the first metro hit the rev limiter just before the half mile, his terminal speed was 147mph, the second seemed to have a missfire the whole way down as it hit its rev limiter almost immediatly off the start and crossed the line at a mere 117mph, it had faster ET though,

back in the real world at goodwood where my car was undergeared by at least 20mph on lavant straight over a whole lap it was still faster than most of the oposition.

What very fast circuits are we talking as i may need to get a different cwp for my nova as its its geared for short circuits it was perfect for brands on the 15 inch wheels, but i am running 13s now i was hoping this would work for lydden and hoping to up the rev limit to get me round brands but may have to change for other circuits, sorry to hijack your thread Dave ,car is looking good by the way

130 to 140 maybe, and Thruxston has church corner, which is a right hander at whatever your top speed is

Yeah the gearcalc and a pair of nomex underpants will sort you out

Don't worry though at least you won't be the only one with the yellow X target on the back of your car

not sure if its one or two day, we have been trying for thruxton for years but there arnt not many days when the circuit can be used so its hard to get a date there at any cost let alone an affordable one
