Re: DW's (new?) Sierra N/A PINTO race car
no where do the rules say you can change a suspension type or axle type so the following would apply
The following Technical Regulations are set out in accordance with the MSA specified format and it should be clearly understood that if the following texts do not clearly specify that you can do it you should work on the principal that you cannot.
even if you could convince the eligability scruits that it was ok it would be neigh on impossible to do whilst complying with the following
ALL OTHER CLASSES With the exception of the following, no modifications are allowed to external or internal body panels, chassis, or unitary construction:
the standard floor pan, sills, door surrounds, bulkheads and roof must remain exactly as produced by the manufacturer in construction, dimension and material. it is prohibited to cut any holes or remove any fixed panels from the standard floor pan, front or rear inner or outer wheel arches, front or rear bulkheads (engine to habitacle and habitacle to boot) for the purpose of mounting or giving clearance to suspension components. Inner wheel arches may only be modified to allow the attachment of shock absorber mountings.
Class B-E (Class A is free) Differential and gearbox are unrestricted providing that they remain in the original location within 5cm.
For live axle RWD cars is permissible to adapt the floor pan to accommodate additional axle location link, but the standard pick up points must be retained.
in anycase whats the point? whilst sierra suspension might not be great on an escort, with the right mods its pretty dammed effective on a sierra, witness numberous 400+ plus bhp cars that realiably and effectively put the power down, and i dare say at one hell of a lot cheaper cost than a decent atlasLast edited by Graham; 29-11-2008, 15:49.Comment

Ok,OK....how do us escort drivers get away with 5 links though?Comment

Re: DW's (new?) Sierra N/A PINTO race car
because I specifically rewrote the rules to allow it,
back then we had 4 linked pinto powered cars that were forced into class A when in reality they werent even very competitive as class D let alone AComment

Re: DW's (new?) Sierra N/A PINTO race car
The idea of building this car is that it doesn't require any heavy fabrication work, therefore if the shell ever got too damaged I just find another sierra.
I don't need to remind people that an atlas (even if legal) would require bespoke body boxes, a complete new axle, a watts linkage etc etc, I am building this car purely to the K.I.S.S theory so that if anything its slightly underpowered/over engineered but very reliable and very driveable, and FUNthumb:
Tom, I tried to pm you yesterday but you inbox was full but everything you said sounds great and if you can get the wheels in motion ready for autosport that would be perfect, will call you tomorrow

Re: DW's (new?) Sierra N/A PINTO race car
Its wider, but if you cut the sill or cut the end off the flatened part of the beam it should go in. As you said the shafts are longer. About 15mm each side. I tried to fit them on my 3 doorwith out checking them.
