Thanks for that. just need to find a pair now. I've got 8x15 et0 for the fronts but couldn't bring myself to get the rears in case I screwed up the ET.
I cannot think of a technical advantage of having it there.
As Dave says, shorter pipe runs means simpler plumbing, less weight and HT always spec this format for there race cars and they have produced more successful pinto and xflow based circuit cars than anyone i can think of.
Like i say we dont have a firewall either so boxing the tank in and fitting really long pipe runs is just adding a load of weight we don't need.
My sierra will also have its tank in the bay, although i do have more than enough space for the std type
