Hi Mate.....good to see progress, best of luck this year!
Well hi mate!! Haven't heard from you in ages good to see you're still about. Thanks and best of luck to you too!! How are things? Any progres with the new engine? How a bout the mk2?
The new bits went in today. After a tiny moment with the angle grinder the filter fitted nicely. Unbelievably I got the holes in the backplate right. First time ever. I hate cutting these backplates. Some tin work was carried out to fit the new tank. Made the boot just soo much neater. And the weight saving is immense. The new tank weights the same full as the old one did empty. Plus the center of the weight closer to the center line of the car.
Wohoo the holes aligned
I'm glad I bought these Pico injectors earlier
There you have it. I'm happy with it. Easy to remove and safe with no parts that could brake loose and get sucked to the engine. And now I have a safe place for the IAT sender again.
And fueling.

I really do think this will affect the cornering of this car. I believe it now has 15 to 20kg less weight pulling the rear to skid. And the added bonus is the saved amps. Those two transfer pumps took 10A each And I have only 40amp alternator. I'm certain this will be a needed relief for the alternator.
Thanks Ex
My car is at its minimum weight so everything I save needs to be put back. But this way I get to decide where the weight is. I still hope this modification will shave some tenths off the lap times.
Sorry I have no pictures of it beeing of the car. Its an GRP panel with no slam panel. I use a alloy rail to support the front end of the inner wings and to hold down the radiator.
Congratulations on your car Mark. You have some serious piece of kit there. Also liked the new fuel tank which is way much simpler/lighter then the old setup. Not to talk about the way your boot looks now, compared to what it was. Keep up the good developments you've been doing.
Maybe my reply is too late.. I have exactly the same kind of fuel tank in my Escort. And probably same kind of fuel pump, too (is it Volvo?)! But I had to make additional surge tank(out of old extinguisher!) and use second, low pressure pump to feed the surge tank to solve my fuel starving problems once abd for all. Old picture of the setup here: http://opentrack.ee/rustang/IMG_7641.JPG
Additionally, beware. The lower aluminum fuel fittings have only plastic washers to seal them to the tank wall, mine started to leak and I had to find special fuel-resistant rubber to make new proper seals. Ordinary rubber will not hold, finally I got a special rubber from NESTE (fuel station) repair guy! If it leaks when scrutineering the car your race could be over before it started.
Thanks for the heads up. But as you figured I've allready made the installation without the surge pot. I'll have to keep an eye out for any signs of going lean. Or make sure the tank is weel topped up before every outing.
