Hi Frank if i can sort the fuel tank and dont have bent valves then im hoping to be at Silverstone in May ,i think you may be there at the same time ,it would be good to see your race it looks as if there is lots of racing to be done going by your last vid ,we will be out with the silhouettes again and they are just so quick .There was only 1 other car in my class so not a lot to play with

        Re: my new nova

Well another Qmn weekend that didnt go to plan,we were at silverstone on the national circuit ,it was an early start 7 signing on 7-30 scruitineering we arrived just after 7 unloaded the car ,primed the oil system went to start it bloody thing wouldnt start ,then while trying the starter stopped aswell .So i stomped off to sign on hoping when i got back it would have sorted itself.Well no luck when i got back tested the solonoid no supply checked the fuses and 1 had blown so reset that tried again and she fired uo ,just ,the varley and jump pack both nearly flat .It went straight through scrutineering took it back to where we were parked and decided to get a cup of tea about a 5 mile walk, just as we were walking back cup of tea in hand we were called to the assembly area so i had to run to the car throw my overall boots etc on and pray the car would start ,it did .
We went out in qually and i was determined to just take it steady ,the car felt very good ,i had the wider rear wheels and have also changed the front springs ,i was not pushing as there were only 2 other cars in my class a Fiesta st and a civic type r,i went out behind the fiesta and soon realised he was not very quick so i just went round trying to learn the circuit and soon realised just what an amatuer i am i couldnt get to grips with it and was laughing as i was driving round as i dont think i had the same line more than once. I thought i would give 1 lap a bit of a try and all was going well i had made sure i got a good exit out of woodcote so i carried good speed along the straight i didnt have anyone in front so a nice clear lap could be had ,went through copse a bit slower than i could have gone came down to Maggots and lifted slightly (i had noticed no one seemed to brake here )i went into Becketts a bit quick ran wide and bounced over a curb on the outside but didnt lose loads of time so carried on .I think this was my best lap which was a 107.For the rest of qually i was hoping to follow someone round and Lee McNair in his lovely Honda integra came up behind so i let him past and thought i would follow but there were yellow flags everywhere so we couldnt really go very quickly but we did pass the type r that was in my class so i realised i would have the beating of my class rivals when it came to the race.

Race time i had qualified on row 13 just behind Tony Paxman in his immaculate 2.3 warrior escort and alongside a seat leon ,Graham was on the row infront alongside John Chasey in his Caterham , i was determined to finish both races i knew that i didnt have to go mad to win my class as the other 2 were something like 5 seconds a lap slower ,so the rolling start came the red lights went out and i got a good start and managed to pass Tonys escort and was behind Graham and John ,it was all a bit frantic with the intermarques having a coming together at copse but i got through that ,the car felt really good even on cold tyres and i was keeping up with Graham and John on the rest of the lap ,on the second lap i think John got past Graham but Graham was tucked right up alongside John as we went into Becketts for the second time i had managed to get pretty close to the 2 of them on the brakes then on the exit of Becketts Johns Catarham started to get out of shape and was starting to spin Graham was alongside him on the outside and i was just behind Graham ,then im not to sure how exactly but Johns car spun back onto the circuit just as i was passing and he collected me sending me spinning off the circuit .I knew i had body damage but wasnt sure if any mechanicl damage ,so i restarted it as it had stalled ,waited for everyone to go past and crossed the circuit over to a Marshalls point to ask if there was any damage they could see .The car felt ok -ish but needed a few revs to pull away but the marshall waved me up an escape road on the inside just after becketts .
So that was that my nice quiet race keeping out of trouble to take the class points On getting out of the car i soon realised the wheel was fcuk,d and the rear beam was well and truly bent.To finish off a crap weekend the recovery lorry got lost trying to find me on the circuit so it took about an hour to get back to the paddock

absolutely gutted for you mate, i knew you were right behind me and was going to make dammed sure you stayed there! as soon as i saw john spinning i thought you would be in trouble, i took evasive action, but had a feeling johns spin might of been unsighted by you.

            Shite luck... but...
"over to a Marshalls point to ask if there was any damage they could see"

            See, your a racer

re the wheel.. the joys of splits, outer damaged, yes the beams taken some too, but if that had been a solid wheel, more than likely you would be looking at shell dammage too.

And your giggling.. fair play to you

I nearly collected both you and John! I'm still sure I could of straightened the beam at the circuit ;-) Hope you make it to Brands,I can't wait to see if the work that I'm doing to mine next week will get me a bit closer to you on track

                Re: my new nova

Thanks for the comments chaps and thanks for the offer to have a go at straightening the beam Nick i,m sure you could have got it somewhere near ,but having driven the car round Brands with a slightly loose wheel bearing and it being pretty much undrivable i didnt fancy a fast circuit like Silverstone with a suspect rear beam .
I am waiting to hear back from Mb wheels about the rim ,if i can sort that i will be ok for Brands ,but typically im busy at work for the next few weeks so may struggle but will try my hardest, i have got a yellow escort that has thrown a challenge down

Good luck getting it fixed, be great if you can join the fun at Brands.
Sounds like you were really unlucky but I guess it could have been worse.

Car looked stinking from the pit lane in qualifying, sounds really crisp

Get yourself signed up Frank, QMN is a friendly bunch of racers, prices are reasonable and you get two races. I'll be out later on and Andys escort is virtually ready, theres Graham, Pushrod, Lee and Jezz, so as Jezza says we can have a good old TS tear up And keep your race reports coming..
