Re: my new nova
Well as i swallowed Graham,s hook and swam with it i thought i wouldnt be racing next year due to class structure ,so i started to pull the car to pieces for a rebuild /upgrade ,i never really thought the car would end up solely a race car when i originally built it so certain things never got done like seam welding ,so i wanted to strip it down and sort it out .If anybody has ever driven a Nova you would know how bad a driving position they have so i wanted to sort this aswell ,i also wanted to move the driving position further back to aid weight distribution so i bought a floor mounted pedal box and i spoke to to Jon Betts who has kindly made me a plate with sliding captive nuts for the pedal box ,so if any longer people want to drive it the pedals can be moved by simply undoing 4 bolts .I have bought fuel injection for it so need to fit a swirl pot and alter the fuel tank arrangement ,as the tank was in the spare wheel well i couldnt easily adapt it to suit so out came the grinder and now i have a hole that will be easier to make a box to fit it all in

Re: my new nova
Good work, love the pedal box idea, much easier than buggering about with the seat. Is that the spare wheel well you've got rid of? Thats what I want to do with mine soon just to tidy the boot floor and lighten it a bit. Where are you running the tank and swirl pot etc now?.jpg)

Re: my new nova
It'd be better for weight distribution to fit the tank/swirl/pump set up in the hump infront of the axle, also less pendulum effect. There'll be shorter pipe and wiring runs aswell.Comment

Re: my new nova
Thats my plan Nick, Just need to decide on how big a tank I need so I can make a box for it all....jpg)

Re: my new nova
I would have fitted the tank where Nick says but my exhaust exits there now on the n/s ,i dont want to fit it on the o/s as it will affect the balance the tank is going very slightly further forward and as we had the rear end sorted i dont want to mess with it too much it will also be slightly more central so all goodComment

Re: my new nova
Must admit I am a bit paranoid about having my tank to near to the back of the car as the sierra tends to sit higher at the back than a lot of cars and if everyone is braking hard a car could end up nose diving under my rear bumper. Seen it happen to the V8 supercars a couple of times (they have now moved there tanks to the rear seat position for that reason). Not such a problem with the nova though as its so low and would more likely just get pushed along if rear ended as its so light. As you say your tank is gonna be further forward and more central anyway.

Re: my new nova
Nick has got me thinking now i have been pondering the tank for ages and i had made my mind up but i am going outside to see how it works as its not huge amounts of work to send the exhaust out the other side.As for when its going to be done i dont know Dave i really want a proper weld in t45 cage and keep thinking that as its a bare shell and going to be dipped now would be the ideal time but i havent really got the funds so that might have to be evo 3 or 4 ,but that could all change .i am changing so much that i will really need to do some testing before racing so i will say July time but im really aiming for the first raceMust admit I am a bit paranoid about having my tank to near to the back of the car as the sierra tends to sit higher at the back than a lot of cars and if everyone is braking hard a car could end up nose diving under my rear bumper. Re: my new nova
Cheers James ,well i have just had a look and the tank will just fit infront of the rear beam but will be quite close to the exhaust but is certainly do able only thing is i am not sure if i will then have to box the tank inunderneath or if i can just leave it exposed ?,i know i will have to enclose the tank inside the car ,i can then use the bit i have cut out to enclose the fuel pump and filter etc.
I will have a chat with Andy and see what he thinks ,but i suspect he will say leave it as is ,just because the rear end was so stable with the old setupComment
