Re: DW's (new?) Sierra 3dr YB race car
As recommended I got some mobile 1 Motorsport oil and put that in today.
Also filled up the coolant and had a little scare, water gushed out of the back of the head! Turned out to be a hole that needed blanking. Checked my 2wd head and that hole isn't there so I nicked one of the grub screw blanks from the oil way on the rear of it. Fitted nicely in the water way with some thread sealant and brimmed the water, and so far no leaks!!
Got my fan fitted nicely and wired in, just clears the front xmember perfectly.
Also started making a heat shield from nimus ally sheet. The side is done and the top will be attached to the strut brace for ease of access
Tomorrow will fit the starter and if it works I should be able to get up a bit of oil pressure without the ignition on. Next will be to connect the tps, get a rough map in there and see if it runs

Re: DW's (new?) Sierra 3dr YB race car
We've been working on our engines for almost the same amount of time Dave. It's been a long road. I get mine back tomorrow but still have a lot of work to do before it goes back in the car. Keep us postedYB Cosworth N/A rebuild ongoing.....100% FordsigpicComment

Re: DW's (new?) Sierra 3dr YB race car
Not long to go now, engine spins over nicely now i've modded the starter motor (again) and it tries to fire as soon as you touch the button with the ignition on. Resisting the temptation to run it though as i've got a base map being written for it and once thats in we can prove everything is sound before it goes to the rollers.
Thats about it really, apart from I've had to modify virtually every 'bolt on' part i've fitted lately. All 3 pedals do something now and all fluids are done so if mapping goes well we can finally look to booking a test day. Working weekends and nights isn't aiding progress though

Well it runsGets nice and warm, oil pressure and levels are great, no leaks but runs a bit funny as its on Andys x-flow map! Throttle response is off but timing and fuelling must be all wrong.
Revs like a b*stard when it does go though
Andy is gonna upload a new base map into it this week and set the throttle parameters etc so we should get it running a lot nicer. Once its all proved safe rolling road will be booked

Re: DW's (new?) Sierra 3dr YB race car
Brief update to revive this thread (sort of) lol.
Car made just shy of 330 bhp on the rollers and performed admirably all day. Of the back of that I booked it in for the performance ford trackday to give the car a bit of a shake down.
Made it through noise testing and everything was running great so ventured out onto a very cold track on very hard slicks only to have a big off after a couple of laps. Tyres couldn't get any temp and third time down the back straight I must have touched the white lines while hard in third and got instantly spat across the track and onto wet grass. Next stop armco.. nose first, then spun round and hit rear 1/4.
Will post some pics later but for now heres some of the head count of f##ked parts so far;
Steering rack, rod end, 2x front wings, damaged rear quarter, rear panel, tailgate, headlight, tail light, 2x wheels, all bonnet pins, front and rear bumpers, pedal box, grille, front panel, inner wings (creased) and worst of all front chassis rails, wings etc have all moved over 2" to the n/s. Car will need jigging and all of the above parts to put right/replaced. Should be a busy winter then
On the positive side the car ran extremely well in every regard before the crash and Grahams engine is a pure work of art. The engine and most of the running gear survived unscathed (not even a drop of fluid lost) so I have high hopes of getting the car back to its best (and beyond) by next summer at the latest. One part I do need to address is the n/a spec diff which is a 4.2:1 and the cause of a lot of the traction issues. I will get fossie to rebuild this in to a suitable ratio such as a 3.7 or 3.9 once the diff is out.Last edited by david_white; 19-11-2013, 21:23.
