Re: DW's (new?) Sierra 3dr YB race car
Right as you can see the cars had a little freshen up. Doors, bonnet and new grille have been repainted (grille and drivers door replace the old, rather bashed in items). While Ray painted the panels I got busy removing the rest of the black stripes from the car as they started to look a bit tatty. Luckily they weren't 2 pack like the rest of the car so they came off with thinners, cutting compound and lots of elbow grease.
I fancied a black bonnet to keep the theme but have had enough of matt colours so got Ray to give it a coat of gloss. Looks amazing when its not covered in dust.
Grille is fibreglass as old one came off in three pieces and it sits on nice new lightened brackets.
Scheme will be finished off with all of the relevent sponsors decals soon enough.
Proof that there is a complete drivers door, window and mirror for the first time in ages.

Big thanks to Ray and his son for the paint work. Not bad considering the car hasnt left the garageWill get it up to him for a mop to give it some shine soon.
New drivers door from inside. Might need a new outer rubber as the one on there now is a bit ripply from being driven up

Thanks. Thats very kind but there are much more bufty racecars out there than this. Besides it was built to race and has never been a road car.

Re: DW's (new?) Sierra 3dr YB race car
Apart from a bit of bodywork the other main change has been with the engine.
We were struggling a little bit to find a decent spec for the NA YB that wouldn't break the bank. It seems that much more than 230 bhp and they are mega money and a huge amount of machining. Apart from not being fair on Graham to have to do so much extra work I felt that the build would be a bit too bespoke and really a one shot deal. We would have got a certain amount of power and that would be it, any improvements would have been hugely expensive and essentially back to square one.
After much thought I have decided the only way to get the car back on track, just as driveable as before and within budget is to go for a low-ish power turbo YB.
This isn't a second best plan, I genuinely think less will be more and 300 hp give or take will give me such a tractable car that it will trouble the big power boys around and out of the bends and hopefully keep up with the quick NA cars. By keeping power sensible we aim to get a very responsive, torquey and reliable package and can hopefully use most of the parts we already have.
Rough breakdown of the spec we are planning is basicaly; Pinto 'Linford' bottom end with its crank, race flywheel and pulley setup (all lighter than YB), cossie rods, turbo pistons (to be decided), ported 4x4 head, std cams (probably), 'Doug' wet sump, 2wd inlet and exhaust and T34 turbo. Bit of a hybrid but you wouldn't expect it to be too normal after all.

Current set up with the mocked up engine bay;
Once I have a turbo I can refit exhaust system and make a heat shield.
Any pointers on installation of the turbo lump appreciated, I'm still learning

Re: DW's (new?) Sierra 3dr YB race car
Thanks guys, really appreciate the comments.
Getting little bits done each day so its getting there. Just need to finalise a couple of bits of engine spec then progress should speed up. Mainly we need to decide what size pistons to use in which block as i am only allowed around +.50 i think which is bigger than one block and the other is 93mm which is way too big for class B.
Need to chose make of pistons too, mahle, accralite or wossner. Mahles look great value but not sure if they'll take cams if we fit them at a later date?
