Yep the short version of today events were that I started at the back and we were all pretty much on wets on a very drying track. I had a load of confidence in the car with a wet setup even on a drying track so I caught Paul Goddard in the BDA escort and waited to see where I was stronger than him. I could carry a lot more speed through paddock and had evry intention of using druids hairpin for the pass.

This was delayed by yellow flags at druids followed by a safety car for the same incident which had involved the nova of Graham Richardson, who's in my class, so having gone up to 5th in class automatically I was now well motivated to see off the 2 escorts for a 3rd in class.

I waited until the penultimate lap to drive around the outside of Pauls escort at druids and exiting graham hill I was right behind Nicks mk1 and I knew his tyres were past their best too. BUT Going up to 3rd gear gave no further accelleration and the car lost all power. I thought I'd knocked the kill switch but everything was as it should be and after coasting off the track the engine would not restart, almost as if out of fuel.

Back in the pits we found that we had fuel, a spark and running fuel pumps but still no engine so we packed up and have now put the car back in my garage and got Andys escort out ready to start work on that for next season

After a troubled weekend I'd just like to say thanks to everyone involved this year as we have taken a car that was totally knackered and turnred it into a competitive racecar despite it being totally outclassed on paper by everything its up against. It has beaten 200kg lighter escorts and cossie powered sierras and there is still loads to come next year

Thanks to everyone involved and everyone who is on here who has shown support, its been a brilliant few months

Out of curiosity what tires do you run and how many heat cycles do you get before their times slip away?
The touring car rubber I use is probably good for about 3 meetings on my car, I've now done 4 meetings and testing on slightly worn ones and they still have some life left but to get the sort of times we need to be on the pace they are past it.

Apart from a dead arm and a mangled drivers door saturdays crash is now history, although I'd be interested to see if any pics of it come to light

Well done Dave, and well hung in there on what sounds like a very trying weekend. These things are sent to test us!

Hope the engine is ok, and not terminal, fingers crossed for you.

i had a quick butchers, its seems to have all its compressions sparks and injections, it does try to start but violently spits back randomly through all the intaKe suggesting to me its mechanically ok either the fuel pressure has dropped to practically nothing, or it has a crank sensor or management loom problem

saw you guys racing this weekend i got plenty of pics too..if somewhat ruined by the fence in the way i did wonder why you didn't finish though dave.. shame as you and the car were both looking good out of interest was it the blue and orange MK2 fiesta that punted into you?

i did wander round the paddock saturday..i did see the cars... but was too embarrased to come and say hello.

                Ben.

                  Ben.
Ben you should have come over, said hello and asked for a coffee and a sandwich, thats what we're there for

Be great if you could post up or send a couple of pics as most of my lot were too busy fixing the car all weekend to get a camera out. The blue and orange fiesta is Eric, the oldest man in motorsport but I've never seen him hit anyone. No the fezza that hit me was the orange and black one that after bouncing off me did 4 or so full rolls. I've now had accounts from all of the drivers that were behind me at the time and they all say I just got speared into so there was nothing I could have done.

To be honest though I'm more gutted about the engine cutting in race two. I'm pretty sure that is gonna either be a weak hp fuel pump or a wire broken on something like the crank sensor.
Either way it was a great weekend, if a bit too wet for our liking in the morning, but this year was always more about getting the car going than worrying about the results and I must say that the way the car has turned out I absolutely love it

                      nice one ben

i can certainly remember it seeming very crowded at druids as i went up the inside of peter taylors RS500 especially as the track was still quite wet and grip levels were rather unknown!

Cheers Ben for the pics, that one of me on the outside of druids must have been the one that stuck as I passed Paul Goddard but must have lost the engine before the skyline shot past as I don't remember seeing it (was checking switches etc for a solution!)

My drivers door after it had received a fair bit of beating back out and cleaning, note the cable to open the door due to the lack of a handle

Re: DW's (new?) Sierra N/A PINTO race car

After an hour of t-cut, elbow grease and sandpaper I managed to remove most of the stuff that had fiesta DNA and not sierra. With a new door handle and a trip to the painters this door will at least be a very good spare if it doesn't stay on the car.

Its amazing how solid the old girl is really, the sill and rear arch hae survived (with help from the body kit) and the extra door bars we added saved my arse for sure. I would never go out on track at race speeds without door bars and perspex now, so thats today top tip boys and girls
