Re: DW's (new?) Sierra 3dr YB race car

Graham has been beavering away with the engine and has now got a 205 block freshly bored and skimmed so that we dont have to use the 'Linford' block which is good as that was a genuine under 2 litre RS2000 block.
I'm trying to convince Graham to start an engine thread even though the spec is fairly standard. I still think it would be very informative and there will still be the odd 'Guru' touch inside the engine...

it was in the plan, though changing engines in an ldv van has somewhat scuppered it for the moment

stop making excuses Graham, ok you are working, rebuilding an LDV van, prepping your race car, building my engine etc etc, but you must have at least an hour a night that you are currently wasting on sleep!

Re: DW's (new?) Sierra 3dr YB race car

Made some more progress lately, all fairly small changes but all getting the car closer to being on track.

Fitted an alternator drop bracket to the dummy engine and it all fits nicely once the lug is cut off the corner of the block. Should keep the alternator a little bit cooler hopefully.

My new G19 plenum, great job as usual by Doug.

Exhaust fitted properly now, hung from 3 poly mounts. I will make a couple of safety straps to go under it incase any mounts fail.

Test fitted a 250 18" slick on the rear as I might be getting some 18" rims. These tyres are a lot better and would also give me a better rolling radius for my gearing but may require a little fettling of the arches. Unfortunately the fronts are a no go atm because the 17's nearly touch the arches and the 18" tyres are 30-40mm taller. May make some subtle arches to replace the cossie ones in the future as the 18s are definately the way forward...

Re: DW's (new?) Sierra 3dr YB race car

Fitted some brand new poverty spec headlights. These should allow me to run in other championships should I wish to, such as tintops if I get hold of some nice road tyres.

Had the front bumper off and fitted all new bonnet pins (old ones on in this pic) to it as the ones on there were a bit crappy. Treated them to some new silicone hose too!

Bodywork now ready for a new set of decals..

The Pipes also popped over and measured up for the new engine wiring loom. We should have all of the plugs and cable we need this week and it wont take Andy long to get it all in there ready for the new engine

Re: DW's (new?) Sierra 3dr YB race car

Todays work.. Brand new DTA S80 pro fitted, all new engine loom made by Andy and now in place with new plugs. All sensors, map sensor, injectors and amal valve are brand new and everything ran as it should from the test run via a laptop.
When new engine arrives it should all be plug and play

Just badly need a PF09 TPS now as my PF01 isn't compatable with the DTA....

Cheers, fixture lists for QMN championship are at www.rodbirley.com but I suspect we'll do a couple of test days before we bring the car out in anger again

Re: DW's (new?) Sierra 3dr YB race car

New fuel pressure gauge fitted, don't want this thing running lean.. Also new fuel lines where needed, made a dummy idle control valve on the lathe from a block of aluminium and made a cold air feed from behind the bumper to the airbox (no pics yet). The air feed duct sits behind the bumper so it stays where it is when the bumper is removed but is nice and snug with it on.
Will plumb in the vacuum lines next and need to get a decent, adjustable, fuel regulator. Thats the plumbing about done apart from the breather system.

Got the new headlamps working too so quite a productive week so far
