Re: DW's (new?) Sierra 3dr YB race car
Sorry but it is a trailer queen, has no back seat and will be driven for a bit more than a 1/4 mile at a time, hopefully
However on a different topic I've been making my non-cheating 16v pinto a bit more comfy by fitting a cambelt cover..
Along with the airfilter being refitted I'm hoping the cover will make the engine a bit safer should it see a gravel trap. Its easy for the gravel to break a cambelt so although this cover isn't exactly a tight fit it might at least give us a chance of keeping the kitty litter out, just incase I push a bit too hard fending off GrahamLast edited by Roadsport; 04-04-2011, 20:45."Failure is always an option." - Adam SavageComment

Dates can be found on www.rodbirley.com might also dabble in the odd classic thunder race when the dates dont clash
Your starlet would suit either series too.Last edited by david_white; 12-05-2011, 19:41.

Re: DW's (new?) Sierra 3dr YB race car
hi ya dave cheers for that info had a look on rods web page pretty well set out on there some at snetterton to right on our doorstep we go down brands to watch to so definitly nip down there ,theres a few of us go down to watch the early motors classic & touring cars etc thats all we really go to watch makes for brilliant days racing , but with all the different class names its a job to work out whats early stuff and what not, hopefully going down to the classic championship down at lyddon this year , so now we know the dates look foward to see ya both racing , as far as racing the starlet i cant race a car now in any form to do with msa license, i might still be able to do class b hillclimb event or trackdays hopefully going to have a little bash at that not the same as racing though is it lolthe only way to go is sideways an thats in wheelchair

Re: DW's (new?) Sierra 3dr YB race car
Started to do a few bits on the sierra again over the weekend so thought I'd post a couple of pics just to show it hasn't been too neglegted.
Have fitted some new light covers as I no longer needed the air ducts (were fitted for going turbo) plus they tone down the very bright headlights a touch so as not to blind other drivers
Have also fitted a perspex plate behind the centre grille which blocks most of it off as it is there mainly for an intercooler which I obviously won't need. I have left some open grille where it feeds a 75mm induction duct but most is now blanked.
Apart from that I've just been tidying it up and looking for anything that can be lightened or simplified (have armed myself with some new spot weld drill bits!).
Oh and it was so hot today that the perspex windows facing the sun started to growLast edited by david_white; 27-06-2011, 21:46.

Re: DW's (new?) Sierra 3dr YB race car
Got a couple more bits done this week including getting the catch tank into position which in turn meant moving the battery inside the car, onto the passenger footwell. The battery is all fitted and the Pipes made me up some new battery cables which now run neatly from the bulkhead down to the battery. Will try to get pics tomorrow.
The catch tank is an old cosworth race car breather tank which I have altered slightly to be just a catch tank. The return outlet will be blocked off and used as a drain to empty the tank, the inlets at the top will connect to the breathers from the engine and the dry sump tank. Gonna try to make a sight gauge too. This set up came from an N/A cossie sapphire race car so should work fine.
I also swapped all of the roll cage bolts for nice new ones as the old capheads were extremely rusty, and of varying lengths.
Also spent a while playing with the Jenveys as I had a pipercross backplate to fit a filter on a pinto and a carbon dished backplate from an mi16 lump. Neither are close to fitting the yb spacing so I cut up and reversed the ally plate and then trimmed it down to fit behind the carbon fibre which I had cut the guts out of. The result is for next to nothing I have made my filter fit the jenveys on the yb manifold and also made enough space to run 90mm trumpets in place of the 45s I could fit inside the filter before.
I also got a new jenvey fuel rail from Burtons and fitted up my vxr injectors.

Looking good Dave.
I'm looking forward to seeing you out on track soon!
I keep promising the mrs I'll take her racing but want to wait until either you or Andy are running... makes it so much more interesting!Comment

Re: DW's (new?) Sierra 3dr YB race car
This is the battery install, still a little tidying to finish.
Also won a cheap ashley manifold, I know its not the best design in the world but as I say it was less than a quarter the price of a Tony Law and hopefully it will get the car done quicker. Shown below is the ashley 3 piece from the pinto which Gary modified and my YB one (black) Hopefully once I have a head to test it I can get a good fit using one or both manifolds for parts.
