Re: DW's (new?) Sierra 3dr YB race car

I have also fitted an omp strut brace which is good enough to use as a harnesses bar and theres also a pic of my new 'msa legal' tow strap as the hole in the origional one was no longer Unimog friendly apparently

Thanks mate, I think it should be good. It should also be better on fuel and tyres so like I say the origional set up of the car will still work.

How much is the Tony Law manifold, I have heard good things about them too

Is there any way you could tilt the inlet manifold up at and angle and use any length trumpet you wanted without the problem of interference from the inner wing. Might also be easier to get cold air in from vents in the bonnet also.

I do believe they're around the £4-500 mark mate, not entirely certain. Only problem is that I'm not sure they do one for the Sierra, would you be able to use a MK2 Escort one?

Best way to do that would be to use tapered throttle bodies and manifold.

With things as they are now I can easily get the longest (120mm) trumpets in with clearance for a filter.
Angling them straight from the inlet would require a bespoke inlet manifold and mean removing the strut brace and its brackets on the turret although it would make for a better shaped intake. For now I wanna keep it simple as poss.

I do have a direct air feed from the headlamp intake as well as a naca duct in the bonnet

At this rate you'll be going full circle and end up still running the pinto in the car.......lol

Just caught up with the latest changes Dave - lovely prep as always!

Where did the soft towing eye come from, is it one of the off-the-shelf OMP ones?

                  Cheers,

                  Paul

Re: DW's (new?) Sierra 3dr YB race car

Cheers Paul, tow eye is a TRS item and was about £11 on ebay iirc.

Nick.. not quite, I was tempted as the lovely pinto is sitting there ready to go but a little extra power of 16v will help a lot with the sierra being a bit tubby.

Just need to sell the pinto head, stainless exhaust and intercooler now. Most of the other blingy bits have already gone.

Glad youve changed to N/A Dave

Now i can watch and learn before i put mine together Just hope Graham does a full write up as you go

I also have a few test bed cosworth heads (One has been massivly ported) so it may come in handy as a guide (where not to remove to much material from etc) for when G starts attacking yours with the dremel

Not exactly neighbours but am sure we could sort something out if you wanted to see it later on in the build

That price is about right, he would need the car as well tho Dave.

Good choice staying na Dave. Trust me it's not cheap running a yb turbo race car. The other benefits are that you don't need to mess with the handling too much with that power hike. I've just added an extra 80bhp to mine and the handling has gone to pot!
                            Keep us posted.
