    Re: DW's (new?) Sierra N/A PINTO race car

    Boring bar steward head on .....

    qualifiying times shows a steady improvement tailing off as would be expected to give an average of 1'54 over the last few laps ..
    a small chassis change ....
    race 1 .. only 3 laps in reality..and all in the 1'52's .... conclusion, a small change on the chassis can produce results .

    Endof the day, Dave did something that very few do, do a qualifiying..then a race..then a wet race on a gp circuit !!!! without incident ..and he did it all in his first outing.

        Well done Dave, and all the rest of the gang involved.
        I think for as long as I have known you, you have been building a race car. I never really thought you would actually race one. Best of luck.

          Cheers Dave, I did start sprinting in a mk1 escort as long as 15 years ago though but your right it is my first circuit race

          I've just realised something too, where I was disappointed to finish the wet race 2 places lower I was actually passed by 3 class A cars that had started from the back, so not that bad after all.

          Had that 2nd race been dry though i'm sure I'd have got into the 1.50s but you can't read too much into reading lap time charts as in some of those laps in the dry race i was getting 5th gear instead of 3rd a couple of times a lap, adding at least a second.

              Fantastic looking race car. I really like the paintwork, it stands out among the others.

                Thanks, only problem is that there is a white 3dr with double navy blue stripes going up the bonnet like mine which from a distance looks very similar but they do look quite different from the side

                This one;

                            Yes that would be Nick, cos the first time I actually overtook the escort was on the GP straight after a nice bit of draughting, a lap later my cut-out switch got knocked off by someone and I had to do it all over again, this time down the pit straight with some outbraking into paddock.

                            Was a lot of fun but I did go and see the chap after the race to explain why I had overtaken him twice, he might have thought I'd slowed down to wait for him as I got the car running exactly as he passed me

                              Removed the rear bumper today and cut out all of the unwanted weight, as well as getting rid of a bit of drag.

                              Also removed rear strut brace to save a little more weight

                                Every bit counts. I was talking to someone today about a rally drivers who has put his co-driver on a diet. He has to loose a 7 kilos before next year as the car is only a 1600 and there was no more metal to remove.
