Re: DW's (new?) Sierra N/A PINTO race car

I Recon ull need a cooler
he probably wont roger, dave will be doing the same events i do and PACE dont recon i need one for my car and my engine is a bigger capacity and should rev higher than daves, dont forget the temperature is a lot lower over here

Howd ya fit pump lines to pinto ?
thats simple you use an oil cooler sandwich plate so your pumping the oil in the engine through the hole the oil filter used to return the oil, you just need to blank off the other sandwich plate hole,

as for hose dia 5/8inch should be plenty plenty big enough

Just a lot of 90 degree turns for oil, is my worry

Oh.... and your gonna use BSP fittings then good old Pommy stuff

Re: DW's (new?) Sierra N/A PINTO race car

its actually the std set up has quite a few very sharp abrupt 90 degree turns, this set up has far fewer, and a lot fewer than a std setup with an oil cooler added, all the external 90degree ones are a long radius so the oil wont know the whether is going round a corner or not,

were not reinventing anything here roger, such a set up has been working well on pintos over here for as long as pintos have been around, maybe being on the wrong side of the planet and confuses the oil and cause problems but here in the uk it works! :

Jic fittings actually as thats what pace use

Re: DW's (new?) Sierra N/A PINTO race car

As Graham says Roger, this engine is all plumbed in as recommended by Burtons where we buy the stuff, Pace who make it and Andy Pipe who's been running happily with it for years. As for not running a cooler it is a case of try it and see, but pace say it should be fine. (We are running 3/4" and 5/8" pipes for the dry sump system and 1/2" for the breathers btw).
If it works out then the plumbing is simpler and more efficient and the tank itself has its own supply of fresh air. In fact the air that comes in the front of the car can either go into the intake duct, through the rad or onto the cooler, everything else is blocked off once the grille is refitted

Re: DW's (new?) Sierra N/A PINTO race car

right daves computer is still being stupid, so he has emailed me these pics and asked me to post them for him, i wasnt there when this work was done, but i will try to explain what is in each pic
dry sump tank mounted, it is mounted at the front for shorter oil line runs and so that it gets airflow around it, preventing the need for and oil cooler and keeping cockpit temperatures down .

header tank mounted up in position and plumbed in:

another shot of the engine bay, showing where everything is, not the brake pots mounted.

            remote oil filter mounted up:

            hope this is o.k dave?

            nice work lads

Re: DW's (new?) Sierra N/A PINTO race car

Wicked, cheers Antman. My computer just locks up as soon as I try to upload any pics, then if I close the uploader window the whole lot closes and is lost, load of bt s**t

As Ant explained perfectly the oil system is plumbed in apart from the JIC fittings on the pump which are on their way from tweeks. The water system is all plumbed in and the brake lines are well under way. Whatever brake lines/fitttings we still need are coming this week

we also have blanked above the rad so that the airflow isn't wasted.

Is the bottom of your dry sump tank level with the bottom of the sump?

dave has asked me to post some more pics, here are the front light covers, they look nice i must say
they are black perspex, with a mesh part on the inner edge to allow for more airflow, on the driver side this will cool the dry sump tank and on the passenger side it will flow more air to those throttle bodies
