Re: Escort Sigma 1600 Race Car

Yes we have very interresting line ups. The free (ish) regulations allow wast modifications and appeals to many different enphusiasts. Yet provide quite close races and even race cars. Both those Imps are R1 engined.
As far as beetles go my favourite is the S2000 engined one. Has been absent this season though.

Why dont you look into tilting the engine over 4 to 6 degrees in the engine bay ?

Re: Escort Sigma 1600 Race Car

Frankly the reason is quite vain, I don't like the look of tilted engines. Its sooo BMW. Alltough I may need to make this "sacrifice" if the evfidence lead me to believe there would be significant gain init. Tilting it would also meen some undertaking since I may need to raise the engine or lower the rack. And I'm not keen on either one of those options. Or having to kink the gearstick or modifying the bell housing. Having problems with the steering rod geometry as it is and hence opted for dry sump and STD rack braces.....I don't have it in me

Those are featherweight Yamaha R1 engined Imps. 650kgs and 160+ bhp.... they go quite well. Plus they have the advantage of having two gearboxes.

I thought one of them sounded like it had a bike engine, rapid little cars, what is the advantage with 2 gearboxes? how many gears do they have?

Re: Escort Sigma 1600 Race Car

They have 5 speeds in use during the race. The regulations state that the motorcycle box needs to be locked on one gear and can't be changed without the use of tools. However they can easily change their gearing to suit the track at hand while in the paddocks. Where as others change the diff or the pigs head they simply choose one of the 6 bike gears available. Can be done in minutes with virtully no costs. What does three English LSD pigs heads with CWP's cost?

Re: Escort Sigma 1600 Race Car

No but all within the 10 year old rules. A bit of a loop hole in my opinion.
The R1 engines cost next to nothing and are fully competetive as standard so I can see the temptation. But they are within the rules and thats that. Luckily only two have been made so far.
In the slower C class theres virtually no chance against these hornets with any car engined car so thats a bit of a bummer. But in my class the R1 imps are not all that owerpowering but deffo have huge advantage.
But then again whats to stop me using an R1 engine.

Now installed. Sorry for the poor picture quality.

In relation to the TCA it looks pretty good. This should reduce some oversteer.
But If I am to further lower the nose or raise the inner ends of the TCA's I need to get hold of a set of crancked steering arms.

Re: Escort Sigma 1600 Race Car

In my case the only advantage I was after was that rose joints can be lowered along the pin to get the steering geometry right on a lowered car.
Other than that I really don't know. They're bound to take more beating though. They seem quite butch compared to the STD rod ends.
