              Re: my new nova

Well the engine was ready to go in on saturday ,big thanks to Andy for rushing it through as soon as he got the block back, being a tight arse i thought i wouldnt hire an engine crane ,with 3 of us it would be easy to lift in ,1st mistake .With the gearbox bolted up and clutch operation checked it was time to lift it in ,it now weighed a ton but with lots of jiggery pokery and swearing and a few hernia,s later it was all bolted in.
Time to start bolting the ancillaries on or so i thought, now we hit the problems there is a lip on the bulkhead that has never been a problem with the old engine but with the 16v head the carbs were further back hitting the lip and the brake lines that i had just refilled and bled the night before,so we moved on to the drive shafts ,shouldnt be a problem i thought same gearbox ,forgetting about the new sump yes you guessed it they hit the sump so they need machining to fit.oh well i will start plumbing the dry sump pump ,i had been to think auto and bought fittings and pipethat i guessed i might need ,Andy had said to try to use straight fittings wherever possible so i bought all -10 and -12 straight fittings ,not 1 will fit i need all elbows.
It was also decided that with the new exhaust manifold being bigger if we ever needed to work around it in a hurry the slam panel would make it difficult so out came the hacksaw and i chopped it out and welded a couple of tags in to sit it on ,i will sort some fixings out later i also plumbed in the oil pressure switch and capilliary gauge to a tapping Andt had done on the front cover
here are a few pics of where we are to date

Pics are not the best but you get the idea ,so my nicely painted engine bay is all chopped up ,welded and now covered in primer,it seems to be 1 step forward 3 steps back , i am having the exhaust manifold cam coated which is going to be a couple of weeks so that should give me a chance to sort the little bits out

Well done mate, these things are never as easy as they are meant to be but at least you are a lot closer to finishing it now That engine looks better in there than the pokey little 8v thing you had before

With regards to you're reply on the other thread about DMN, don't let the last race put you off, it is still the place to be and the best saloon car chamionship out there imho and things should be back to normal next meeting

                  Re: my new nova

Well i have just got my manifold back from being ceramic coatedonly 1 problem it doesnt fitthat will teach me to try to rush it and not trial fit it it was supposed to be an sbd/btb manifold which i thought would suit a dry sump system that is going to slow progress now as i am going to have to sell this one and source another

                    Re: my new nova

No Dmn for me today ,but Andy came round with a few bits to fit ,we changed the chokes on the carbs fitted the driveshafts that Andy had machined ,we then filled the dry sump system and primed it ,fitted the battery pressed the button but no joy
Andy then checked the plugs ,no spark so a quick adjust of the c.p.s ,then put the booster pack on pressed the button and away she went
We the put some bigger jets in the carbs adjusted the dry sump pump to give a little more pressure so we are almost ready to go.
I need to fit a clutch cable and tidy up a few bits then we can go and bed the engine in before a trip to the rollers for a check and adjust if needed then i can go racing again
