Re: Grahamb's Mk1 Fiesta XR2 Duratec HE Hillclimber

Ordered a load of bits today from Goodridge
4 x 2m of the hardline aluminium fuel line
        2 x couplers
        2 x 90 degree swivel females
2 x straight swivel females, all in -6

I've also gone for a G-Cool fuel cooler, GCS619AN06 in 19 rows, which is going to be mounted at a 30-40 degree angle under the floor at the rear of the car (below the fuel cell) so it should aid the cooling of the fuel returning to the cell whilst the car is travelling forwards. I'll use the spare 350 Earls hose to plumb that in. So the fuel lines inside the car, between the front and rear bulkheads, will be two runs of the hardline, and the plumbing behind the rear bulkhead will take the fuel to the cooler using the flexible Pro-lite 350 hose, and the fuel will then be connected to the return inlet on the end of the ATL Cell.

I'm a big fan of the Pro-lite 350 range from Earls, its far easier to cut and fit the ends on, without puncture wounds (from the absense of any stainless braiding). Its lighter than the stainless stuff too.

Hopefully, no more petrol fumes inside the car from next week

Interesting, do you have any evidence that the fuel is getting too hot, or is it a hunch?

Re: Grahamb's Mk1 Fiesta XR2 Duratec HE Hillclimber

Just a hunch. The plastic tank in the boot, and the journey the fuel takes, heats it all up. I'm re routing the new lines away from the zorst tunnel, and the cooler will bring the temps down even further. I only have 200bhp so safeguarding every bhp is worth the effort.

TBH i think your being way over cautious,

i cant think anyone that i knows that circuit races that needs a fuel cooler, infact quite the reverse one of my turbo motors i actually piped the fuel through the throttle body to cool the body!

Well it cant hurt Graham, and it weighs bugger all, so I'll fit it and decide if it was worth it or not next season.

7 grand! Yikes. Stick a std 2.0 in, with the right induction and exhaust you'll have 200bhp.

It's worth every penny though mate, Steve builds such a good engine, just ask Matt

Fitting a standard engine with just the induction and exhaust kit from Steve should buy you 210bhp or so.

He has a big stand at the Autosport show in Jan, go speak to him then and he might even have some show offers on (don't quote me on that though, as I don't know if he will).

I've finished off the brakes, and removed the leaking Willwood pressure regulator (saved a bit more weight) from inside the car and replaced the brake lines, routing them away from the exhaust tunnel. Now in the process of fitting the goodridge hard fuel lines. One down, one to go. Trying to keep the 2m lengths intact, with just one coupling on each line to allow them to reach the fuel cell. Ever so careful bending the pipe to all the right angles so it follows the brake line and routes around the black boxes on the floor

Finished making the hard fuel lines last night, just P clips left to fit and a couple of short lengths to couple to the fuel pump and cell.

The two lengths inside the car are both continous 2M lengths, which I managed to bend without ruining (having learnt the finer skills on one of the other 2M lengths).

                              Moving swiftly along

Aside from burying fish from the kids fish tank this weekend, I've been making running boards (or call them what you will) for the Fiesta.

Carboard again is the patron saint of home brewers like myself.

I'll get Altiss to make them up from Aluminium as soon as I've worked out how to fasten them to the sills of the Fiesta. The GRP arches will be trimmed to allow the boxes to fit beneath them. Looking like 90mm wide, and around 100mm deep.

I toyed with fitting these MCR running boards, but they dont lower the effective height of the sills low enough without severe modifications.

This is the rare Kamei front spoiler I bought from Germany 5 years ago. I'd like to fit it, but have enquired with TK Motorsport in Germany about the Scirocco front spoiler, as that could be made to be removable (for trailering). The existing MCR front spoiler in the shot below would need to be removed, and the front wheel arch extensions fitted, modifed suitably.

Here is the scirocco front end I'd prefer to use.

                                hello mate,

God how the car has changed from when i last seen you at Senterton a few years ago now ( i was the guy in the red zetec mk2 xr2). Really craking work there, makes me miss my mk2 so much. But still a zetec fan as i am now constantly playing with the one that i fitted in my Capri. http://www.turbosport.co.uk/showthre...tec-conversion few pictures there. I have the engine out yet again at the moment to make up a better sump, and also gonna go down the bike carb route as i have space issues believe it or not to fit any thing else without removing the servo, Cacking work as always mate and see you around in the new yr as gonna try and get to a few more shows.
