I know, so unlucky. I'm never at the right place at the right time. I have irons in the fire though. So fingers crossed.

Max0815, I use paper laminated photos of lights. http://www.zetecinside.com/xr2/electrics3.shtml

Re: Grahamb's Mk1 Fiesta XR2 Duratec HE Hillclimber

Fuel cell cover is back from Altiss and the front grill is now finished (apart from reaming all of the 81 holes!) and painting.

The Latest News page for Zetecinside.com, for the Mygale EcoBoost Formula Ford, detailing race results, modifications, and all the other nonsense I get up to in my spare time.

I needn't have bought the fuel cell door from the States, Nigel made me one (included in the very reasonable £110 price).

No tickets for Sunday have magically appeared, so I'll be watching the BTCC and the Chinese GP instead

Lovely work, love your attention to detail as usual.
Cant believe how simply you made those fake headlamps, very convincing too, I thought they were real all this time! I would copy the idea but we have to have headlights or at least something 4" or bigger now.

Hello mate, car looks great and i have read the thread several times, could you tell me where you got the box from that you have used to house the switch, relay and fuses.
                  Many thanks

                    Re: My Mk1 Fiesta XR2

The box is from cpc.co.uk and is part number EN81783
The carbon cover is made from some 1.6mm carbon sheet, from Ledon Racing Services (Ebay shop)

I was on track at Mallory on Saturday, two sessions, one in the damp, and one in the dry.
In the morning in the damp, the fuel pump fuse blew after 7 laps, which left me coasting along the pit straight, whilst people overtook me at 100+ mph. Quite scary. I replaced the blown 10A with a 15A and it didn't blow again. I'd changed the pump over the winter to a Bosch 044 and it clearly needed a bit more juice than the Webcon pump it replaced.

The afternoon session in the dry was 15 minutes of flat out thrashing around the circuit. I must have lapped everyone, it felt like it anyway. She pulls like a train, sounds amazing, and had no issues with overheating, no issues with the new fuel tank installation (no fuel surge) and performed flawlessly. On 8 year old tyres.

The rear wing has transformed the handling. The car now understeers when I lifted off around Gerards when I caught backmarkers, so I needed to be brave and drive it around the corners. The running boards didn't fall off either, and the new grill worked a treat. I stuck two lengths of tank tape over the holes in the grill to protect the TB's from getting stones in the engine, but for sprints/hillclimbs I wouldn't run with the tape, so the TB's would get air forced directly in to them.

The water pump I've noticed is leaking, from just below the input shaft, so I'll get a replacement. Is it worth going for a 'Cosworth' pump? Are they any different from Factory pumps?

i'm always uncertain about these "cosworth parts" as i believe they're all just slightly altered ford items

i have the same question about the oil pump

Re: Grahamb's Mk1 Fiesta XR2 Duratec HE Hillclimber

Flashed the firmware in the ECU on Tuesday with V63 which allows for full throttle gearshifts. I just need to buy the dual channel hall effect sensor from Geartronics for the sequential gearbox and wire it in.

This is a view of the data captured during the afternoon session at Mallory Park. The water temp without a thermostat starts off around 90C then gradually drops to 67C after 15 mins of hard driving. Quite happy with that, as the car does a fraction of that mileage on a sprint.

Fitted the new water pump, then discovered a problem with the gearbox support bracket I made, which needs some re-inforcing. Its flexing under load, and I'll brace it tonight with some gussets. Nothing too serious.

I was lapping Mallory in just under 58 seconds, on 8 year old tyres, so it was quite a good indication of the potential. I may just try a bit of serious roundy roundy stuff one of these days. I had so much fun in 15 minutes.
