The hoses and connectors for the remote filter failed to show up today so the engine will not be fired this weekend
Also confirmed my suspicions about the air filter. Is too tight fit, has no room to open up so its useles
I'll have to check what other options do I have. I think I could try a shallower filter but that'll come
quite close to the trumpets leaving only an inch btween the trumpet and the filter. And I could not use the spacers I bought to try longer trumpets. I'll get the car mapped without an air filter and see do I need longer trumpets. Then I'll figure out the filter issue.
I predict the car will be ready today except for the oil hoses.
I'll try and see if I can remove the supporting mesh from the filter. This would allow the filter to collapse and give enough foom to remove it. But it remans to be seen wheter the filter can maintain its form under throttle.
The thought of leaving the filter out of the car entirely is strongly gaining ground in my mind
After all my x-flow and pinto never had air filters. But then again this engine has taken a hundred times more effort so would be sensible to use "proper protection".
There it is. All plumbed and wired (except the remote oil filter)
The trumpets needed massive grinding on the flande to fit the Jenveys. And I made the take of for the machanical oil pressure gauge.
Tinkered with the air filter but it just will not fit. Need to think of something else. Shorter Pico style injectors would allow the use of flat back plate and that could give some more options. But as for now I get to admire the go fast look of the trumpets
Noe that it's all there there suddenly isn't so much room around the engine.
Thanks guys.
I really cant' wait to fire it up! We chencked the ecu yesterday and seem to get ell the necessary readings from the engine.
The coolant temperature gauge rocketted straight to top end of the gauge when power was turned on so thres some issues to sort out with it. But that will not stop the fire up.
Graham do I need to connect the valve cover breather to the oil tank or can I just use a breather filter for the valve cover and plug the inlet in the tank?
Still no hoses.Still no smoke from the engine. I rang the GLs freight company and ther parcel will not be here until tomorrow. It should have been here but the danish f*uckers had a day off last friday . Thus the parcel was stuck in Denmark.
So now I need to rebook me a new time on the rolllers. I hate this stuff, even if you work your ass off there's always something that ruins all the efforts. I hate motorsports....
aw thats a crying shame! I'm also p1ssed off , was hoping to have some shiney hardware for my Engine Friday , so I'd have the long weekend to put it together and drop it into the car , letting me fit and plumb the radiator...but no Courier! Looks like I'm not gonna make the next round of my championship...
I can make it in time for sure. Unless the engine blows up on the rollers that is. I was planning on two roller sessions and a practice run before the first race. But Now I'll get it mapped and try to arrange another session to adjust the timing if needed. As for practice runs I'll go to the track a day early and do my runs there.
This is not at all the first time I'm about to run out of time in the start of season. It's more of a rule rather than exception.
The hoses and hose ends arrived today. So I plumbed the remote filter head and... now I'm done. During the proces I kinda hoped we would have RHD steering in Finland too
but after some tight squeese all I need now is to pour in the oil and water and start cranking the engine.
