    Re: I'm ready

Excellent news, great debut, and glad it all hung together for you.

Please tell us about the 'plans' you're forming for the engine...

      Re: I'm ready

The plan is just forming now. I'm not certain what needs to be done yet.
It all still needs dome investigating. The head will propably be further developed. I'd also like to try a different exhaust manifold. Also I would like to move the engine to the other side to allow more room for the air box and trumpets. While moving the engine I'd like to lower it since I'm doing a new manifold anyway . And lowering the engine would include manufacturing a new xmember so I might as well raise the inner TCA ends and alter the geometry of the front end. This would also need new rod ends to the steering rack.
I'll get a smaller fuel tank and move it forward. I'll also move the oil tank forward.

These are the plans BUT I'm not yet sure which modifications will be carried out. I'm not sure is one winter long enough for all the modifications and I all that necessary after all. The winter is always surprisingly short and usually only a fraction of the plans can be carried out.
Would love to find, I don't know, some 10-20 more horses.... and bucket loads of torque....Their not easy to find though are they?

Now all of a sudden the plans may include a rear end swap from the Mustang to Baby Atlas.
I've been offered one practically free. Now I'm investigating the costs of a GP4 conversion.
The atlas may be a bit lighter and the reason I'm quite interrested is I want a larger variety of ratios.
The highest ratio with the Mustang rear is 5.13 and that seems too long for the revy Sigma engine. I'd like to hit the limiter on the main straights. That would mean going with the 5.5 or 5.8 even.

              Thanks DW.
The lower shows nicely the suspension at work. May even need to stiffen the dampers a bit.

If you are interested I have a very good 5.8 atlas CW+P here, I can send you pics if you like, I used it for a short time only, I used it with a 1600 pinto with about 120-130bhp on gravel so it was never under any high loading, it was good fun though

Send me a PM if you are interested, my dad set it up by the way, he has built many atlas axles fro rallying over the years and never had any trouble, he always makes sure the contact wiping area between the CW and pinion is in the right area and we use castrol B373 competition LSD oi + in gearbox too, reduces wear to a minimum and is thinner than regular gear oil.

Nice pics by the way, that car is slammed!

                  Re: I'm ready

I'm very interrested in the 5.8 only dont know the final plans yet. I'll pm you.
The CWP will not be under enourmous stress in my use eighter so a good second hand CWp will do fine.

Thanks for the complements! The rear end of the car can be dropped very low but the front end has a almost std X-member so I can't further lower it without ruining the geometry. Hense the plans for the DIY x-member. Or I could just try a set of lower front wheels. Would drop the nose for one centimetre.

And so begings the slow birth of EVO 2

Did the last event of the season yesterday. Not much to tell really.
The coil of cylinder no.1 died after only six laps of the free practice session.
We could not find a replacement anywhere so my weekend was pretty fast done with
Note to self: KEEP A SPARE

The car felt fast in the wet and I was running fourth in the practice. But it was very wet and slippery and it I could not push at all. The Escort does handle nicely in conditions like that though.
The season is over now so I will start to plan the evo 2 engine. It'll start with a quick visit to the rollers to try some stuff and gather some info.

Yes virtually no grip at all ! But as long as theres even some to be found for the front end I don't mind.
Seems to suit well for me and the car.

Ordered a some coils today. One to replace the dead one and two for spare.
Noticed the price on them at Fords has gone trough the roof in Finland. used to be 50€ and now 119€
ebay to the rescue and ordered them at 10£ each.

Anyone have a clue what could be the most obvious reason for a coil to go? Heat? Dwell time?
Somehow I predict more dead coils unless I react somehow...

                              You think? Really?

The coil went two laps after a big time spin and outing to the grass. I was convinced this has nothing to do with it.
