Re: Escort Sigma 1600 Race Car

This one is alloy so hopefully lighter than OE even with the 31mm larger diameter.

Bought a lump of alloy today. Was not easy to source 140mm diameter alloy bar.
      The difference is quite noticeable.

Re: Escort Sigma 1600 Race Car

Yes It will slow it down quite a bit. The circle is 28% bigger than on OE pulley. I don't know wheter that means it will rotate 28% slower
But the water pump is originally meant to spin at 2000 to 3000 rpms my engine is constanly on 5000 to 9000rpms so Its a good thing its slower now. I believe it will improve the cooling on higher revs. Too fast spinning pump will not move the water very efficiently. It may only cavitate, drill a hole in the water if you will. Learned this from the works BMW's.

Re: Escort Sigma 1600 Race Car

Got the Idler pulley bracket back. Now milled to get the other bolt head flush too.
Now I can mount the cam belt cover over it.
Also bought a box full of bends for the EVO II manifold. I have the next week off from work and I plan to do some work on the manifold. Hopefully get it cut out and tacked together. Can't get it all finished since I don't have the actual race head yet. I don't know do I need to make the holes in the flange bigger.

Also dropped the alloy lump off to the mahcinig guy who'll work his magic and make it in to a pulley.

whats the plan for the manifold? I'm thinking of making my secondaries longer , I need a littlemore mid range bhp .

Re: Escort Sigma 1600 Race Car

Basically I want to try out a shorter manifold. And I'll try to place the collector to the bay rather than under the car.
The system lenght I have now should be right for the engine but I'd like to try and see whats the effect with shorter manifold.

Re: Escort Sigma 1600 Race Car

Atlast I got to do some real work on the EVO II.

Started the new manifold today. And actually got quite far with it. It should really be smooth sailing from here. The no1 and 2 tubes should pretty much follow the same pattern than the no3 tube.
This one is 100mm shorter than the earlier one and places the collector in to the engine bay rather than under the car.
Now the xmember is the lowest point of the car. like it should be.

Re: Escort Sigma 1600 Race Car

Smooth sailing, my ass!! I Realised I'd mis calculated the lenghts in the third cylinder so I had to start the day by correcting that one.
Another day another tube. Took me whole day to make the number two pipe. Very tricky business this manifold making. Had a go at the no1 but I was forced to forfit. I always seemed to end up with too long or too shirt pipe.
Ran out of time life outside the garage got in the way.
Anyway, since I have no real friends I'd like to share the mandatory pics with you guys.

Re: Escort Sigma 1600 Race Car

Looks good, yeah it is difficult to get all the pipes to fit with the lengths within 1/2" of each other, the last two are a real pain, lots of thinking and adjustments.

After reading more about manifold design I beleive the primaries could easily be + or - 1" if not 1.5", all it will do is produce a slightly wider power band, no harm at all.

                                Good luck with it
