Re: Escort Sigma 1600 Race Car

Didn't manage to open up the bottom end.
Instead I spent the afternoon making another bracket as long as I still had the head with me.
The early model cam cover seems to fit. So I'll use that for faster and easier removal.
So I needed a bracket for the coils.
The head has now been sent to be further improved
The bottom end needs to be carefully looked at. I need to figure out what caused the markings in the bores. Too tiny piston to bore clearance, lack of lubrication etc etc.

I asked the professional head modifier to flow test the Jenvey 42mm trottlebodies. This way I'll get an idea wheter the TB's are holding the engine back.
They really should not as the engine is below 200 at the moment.

No chance, they are easily good for well over 200. It is either cam spec or setup or head specification that is holding you back.

im inclined to agree, 42mm bodies are good for 250bhp on a k series

Re: Escort Sigma 1600 Race Car

I would guess the early puma kit car engines would be the most powerful, 230-240 bhp.

Thanks for the info. I guess I can rule out the throttlebodies off my list then. And resort to some more head trickery and manifold experimantations.

I could do with an engine like that.

Re: Escort Sigma 1600 Race Car

Haven't got any real work done on the engine. The life outside the garage has really come in the way of this build. Hope to clear these issues soon to get on with the season to come.
Anyway I tinkered at home and got the the cam cover done. I hoped to cut and weld shut the oil filler hole for the dry sump look but since ford claim this cover to be magnesium alloy I chickened out on the welding bit.

Wish this cover would have some lettering to polish. I really like the look of the raceline Duratec R cover.
                      But this will do.

I received an interresting phone call today. It presented me with an opportunity to get me hands on my former Pinto engine. It had snapped a crank and the current owner asked if I was willing to bring it back to life. Naturally I was. I hope he brings it over. Would be nice to see the all mighty boat anchor again...
