The rest of the engine is now dismantled and the block is still good to go after some honing and the rod is as good as new. Happy days...

Just amazing! two weeks and the head is back in business. Its unbelievable what can be achieved with the help of some true friends and craftsmen. I'm so lucky to know these guys who made this possible.

I now have the piston too so its now only matter of waiting for the piston rings to arrive and ballancing the new piston to match the old one and I can put the little bugger back together again.

Thanks fellas.

Made me a crude tool to help me with the rebuild. These really helps the use of the bolt strech gauge as the main ladder is not in the way when I tighten the big end bolts.
These separate main ladder pieces will clamp the crank down and only after doing the rod bolts I'll install the main ladder. This will give much more room for the stretch gauge and a better angle to do the bolts.



As you see the main ladder can really get in the way when doing the bolts.

No this is not EVO III only the rebirth of the EVO II (with a slight tweek to the valves). EVO III will have to wait. I plan to do the EVO III head myself but It'll take some time and propably will not outperform this professionally modified head. From the get go anyway.

The missus and the kids are out camping today so I made the best I could with my quality time.

Bottom end fully built up now and even managed to pop the head on. Feeling so confident I even entered the the next event in a week and a half.

This is where we are tonight. Ready to be timed. After that all it needs is a oil pump and the engine mounts and its ready to go in.
To save time this time I intend to shoe horn it in with the airbox on. As it is an utter nightmare to install when the engine is in the bay. Never really realised it soo huge.

Today is my day off garage but yesterday was pretty productive day.

Got the engine all assembled timed and ready to be installed.


200bhp in a Transit. Taking the engine back to the rest of the car.


Mated with the SL72 and going in


Now installed. Missing a radiator and the loom is yet to be connected so propably will be running tomorrow.


Not much room between the airbox and the inner wing. Infact there were some rubbing marks on one of the lid rivets. And one was missing all together. Doubt it had anything to do with the engine failure but its not a good idea to be slinging rivets at the throats. Some gentle wing bashing gave some more clearance.
