Re: Escort Sigma 1600 Race Car

I have given it alot of thought. I guess at the end of the day theres no way of knowing wheter the missing rivet had anything to do with the failure. It certainly was not in the air box. But could it keep the vavle enough open to cause collision with the piston.... It seems unlikely to me that a rivet could snap a valve or cause such a damage.
Perhaps iif it found its way in to the valve relief between the valve and piston @ TDC causing a kink or fracture to the valve and the revs did the rest....never know

      ...AND TIME!!

Its now done and making all the right noises. And to think how grimm it looked only four weeks ago! Not bad, even if I say so myself.

Sorry no pictures this time but I believe theres allready enough pics of my engine bay on this thread.

As a matter of fact no. I thought it would arrive with the new piston rings but it didn't. I'll worry about it later.

Good man, nice work there, hopefully the engine will still be going strong in years to come, best of luck with it

Re: Escort Sigma 1600 Race Car

Thanks Jason ! Will be driving the car to the trailer today and heading for the race tomorrow afternoon.
I'll know tomorrow or the day after have the repairs wokrked or not. It may well yet drop the vavlve seats, or something else for that matter. Theres always something that can go wrong when major welding is involved, but we'll see. And I'll let you all know.

Re: Escort Sigma 1600 Race Car

Back from the races...this timne with a happier note. A truly epic weekend which in the end proved to be the race of my life.
I'll tell you about it later here are some pics of the weekend.

Snapped prop due to bent lower 4 link bars. It banged the bottom of the car so hard it cracked the windshield.

                    Some battle scars

Racing in VERY hard thunder storm. Wiping of some fog

At times it rained so hard it was literally impossible to drive the car it was constatntly aquaplaning and out of control. To me it was ridiculous to allow the race to continiue. It was down right dangerous.

The car refused to turn on the soaked tarmac. On the gravel it handelled nicely though

5th in the thunder storm and second overall today on dry conditions

Yes in the end the engine worked beautifully! It really is a magnificent little engine. Drew some attention to it too. Beeing the smallest (car) engine in the class too.
