Trying to get time off for good behaviour, so I can spend some time outside.
Planning on getting next mon-thurs off work so I can concentrate on the conversion.

            Et voila!

Heres some pics of what I've been up to.

5 hours work to get the engine and box out, due to the fact that I have to take half the car apart to get the engine out.
Engine and Quaife box are now in the car, on the M-Sport engine mounts, waiting for the rest of the bits to be bolted back on.
            I'll do that Friday/Saturday.

Re: Grahamb's Mk1 Fiesta XR2 Duratec HE Hillclimber

I've left the ST clutch and flywheel standard for the time being, be interesting to see how much abuse the ST clutch will take. The Quaife box is 4.5Kg heavier than the std IB5 box, which I presume is down to the weight of the LSD in the Quaife, plus all the internal sequential gubbins. I swapped the clutch slaves over, so the newer one from the IB5 is now on the Quaife. I'm pleasantly surprised about the end profile of the sequential box, I've a far bigger gap between the end casing and the chassis rail than I had before.

Next job is to bolt everything back on, starting with the zorst, which was a dream to get off, thanks to TLE's build quality.

Looking good at the moment. No major snags as yet.

                    Brilliant Graham

I'm guessing the clearance issues you thought you were going to have didn't happen in the end?

Looks lovely, bet you cant wait to try it.

Re: Grahamb's Mk1 Fiesta XR2 Duratec HE Hillclimber

Yeah, its certainly smaller than I thought, though the rotary sensor on the end of the box looks like it may hit the tie bar, but I can move the engine over to the drivers side if I really need to, to give clearance.

And yes, I am most definitely looking forward to driving it. Troy at Northampton Motorsport will have first dibs though, as it needs to get back on the rollers to let them finish off the mapping before I can start hoofing it around. That reminds me, I need to book it in.

Refitted the starter motor, oil and clutch lines, and spayed various brackets prior to fitting.

The Quaife supplied gear shift cable is 23" too long, and I'm now in dialogue about replacing it with a shorter cable. They claim it came off their ST demonstrater, so puzzled as to how its too long.

maybe they just didn't mount it as neatly and directly as you would?

Re: Grahamb's Mk1 Fiesta XR2 Duratec HE Hillclimber

It's because it follows the same route in the ST, but in their ST the cable went up, hit the bonnet, and then went down to the gearbox, so it was already a tad on the long side. And yes, I want it to look neater than that (plus the cable is very heavy duty, so shortening it will save more weight)

The Mk6 ST cables are the perfect length for my Mk1 Fiesta, so I need to measure their length, and Quaife are going to sort me out with a shorter selector cable

Bolted the alternator back on last night, with freshly painted brackets, and I've reconnected it and fitted the drive belt.
I've also fitted the IB5 output cup on the passenger side. Next job is to refit the exhaust manifold, and remove the Mk6 gear selector mechanism, and fit the Quaife gearlever. Then I can stick some more heat shield to the underside of the exhaust tunnel, and fit the rest of the exhaust system back on again.

Everything is being loctited this time, as I shouldn't need to disturb anything for a while.

Fitting the shorter axlebar, which I sleeved with adhesive heatshrink to stop it from going rusty.

                                Thinking caps on everybody.
Any suggestions? Put a kink in the tie bar so it goes under and around the gearbox?
