      considering i've taken off a turbo and only have half as many valves now to have nearly half the poke the turbo motor had isnt too shabby, many pinto owner whether 8 or 16v would kill for what ive now got ;

just caught up from start of conversion superb read, superb info. its a pity the popular mags dodnt do proper features like this instead of thinly disguised glossy adds for their main advertisers !
best of luck in the prep and 1st race

Re: A racing bmw 316, hopefully the worlds most powerfull Atmo M10

dave finished the mappig today, but we didnt realy find much more,

by pure fluke we started with pretty much the ideal length for the long intakes

playing more just tended to rock the torque about a bit, 230bhp with 201lbft as a high as the power went with the lowest torque fig, we did get the torque as high as 208lbft but then power was down to 122bhp so not much in it really, we stopped at 229bhp 206lbft

undoubtidly power wil go up a bit more with some miles on it but for now, the way to get more speed is get me in the seat and learning to drive a car without any power, and also one which now has a diff ratio thas too low!

i;ve got a load of graphs but they are all quite similar and you have to lay them over each other to see the differences, but this one is pretty typical, the engine is making a monster bonkers race cam look like a fast road jobbie, as i thought at the curent spec at least the engine doesnt really need 50mm throttle bodies, there not doing any harm but theres very little difference between full throttle and almost full throttle

the big spike in the AFR lowdown is where the outer injectors kick in, in truth you should never feel it, as they only operate at load site 13 or above, and on a race track you should never be that deep in the throttle at such low rpm

So, the question is... is it really the world's most powerful atmo M10 engine?

As you say Graham, not too shabby for an old 8v atmo

I can't wait to see it out on track now

there are supposidly a few that get close on power, but this murders them on torque

Graham, delighted you've finally got her mapped and some impressive figures you put out there, a credit to your work!

As you say, you've got to learn how to drive her again now and now you're sporting the new 'Athletic' you the P2W ratio should shoot up too.

Re: A racing bmw 316, hopefully the worlds most powerfull Atmo M10

a little progress, now the engines had about 6 hours running i've given it an oil change, its got notyhing special in terms of oil in it Duckhams 20/50 is plenty good enough to prevent wear whilst allowing things to bed in properly, once teh cars done its first event i'll change the oil again for somthing better

now the inlet lengths are sorted, they need permantly attaching, starting with som e slightly tapered tubes that just fit in teh T/b and are secured with some very strong building adhesive

finally the trumpes and there extensions ( tractor radiator hose) and i bolted the fuel rail,

just a zillion small jobs left to do before Brands on sunday

i had planned to fit an air filter and poke the injectors through the filter but there just isnt room so i'l have to run without for now
