    Bolt stretch gauge

During rebuild if I were to use the bolt strech method how can I make sure the bolts have not yeld or over stretced the first time around?
I used the con manufacturers torque specs and obviously did not measure the bolt lenghts prior to tightenning.
Arp spec for 5/16" ARP 2000 bolts is 26lbs/ft and the con manufacturwrs spec was 28.

Do I need to buy another set to be sure their not streched and good to use again with the strtch gauge?

Its a Pace Products tank. 7 litres so is that about two gallons. Plus the lines and cooler and filter alla and all I believe I have ~9 to 10 litres of oil in circulation.

Tany law would be nice. Alltough I would propably have to modify it quite a bit to fit in the mk1 engine bay.

And I would be missing out of the joy of making one my self. I'll propably do one that allows me to move the engine a bit to the left if necessary. I do not know untill the Evo two is dynod again.

Re: Escort Sigma 1600 Race Car

Got some work done on the car today. Well on the engine anyway.

I wanted to make the engine more servicable. The first set up has proven a *itch to get hands on.
I thought of fitting an older alloy (acording to ford magnesiom) cam cover. Alltough my head is the later type I think I can fit the alli cover with only minute modifications.
The older cover is held on by four bespoke cam cap bolts. I need to get me a set of these bolts and fill one of the twelwe excisting bolt holes for the later black cover.
The reason is that I'm aick and tired of unbolting these twelve bolts that are fixed to the cover. Its a lot faster to only undo four nuts.

The second improvement was to move the alternator. To a more favorable place weight distribution wise and to get more room where its needed. This left side of the engine holds only the eaxhaust manifold and nothing else so plenty of room there. This freed a lot of space in the right side where everything else is placed.

Also took the head of to be sent for further poking. No issues were to be seen other than few slightly polished parts in the bores.

At the end of next week I'll check the bottom end bearings. Not expecting any serious wear since did not get a big drop in oil pressures.

Took my camera with me today.

Mock up to see wheter the early type cover could keep the oils in

All alloy (I'll paint cover with black wrinkle paint if it stays on)

This hole needs to be well sealed for this cover to be used. I'm thinking the black sealent for the job. Easy to remove if needed. I'll also need to figure out some mean to support the coils. Hope this open design will help to keep the coils cooler.

Alternator location decided. Gives more room where needed, sits 20cm lower and on the better side of the engine to ballance the driver. Me. Hey , everything counts, alltought these gains / advatages may well only be psychological. Everything still counts.

Altough 8mm thick the alternator bracket was ever so slightly wobly so decided to stiffen it up a bit. Sadly the Kemppi gave up during welding so now only tacked together. Allready stiffened things up though. Its not often you attach the alternator to the oil pan is it?

          Off with the cams

          Off with the head

Slight markings / polished spots in the bores. Only visible did not feel in the fingers. Maybe some honing needed.

It seels like a do over since the season was so short for me. But this is a perfect opportunity to rectify the few dodgy bits of this engine conversion.

I hope the ITG filter works for me. That would make this engine yet more serviceable. I need to swap to Pico injectors though.

            Good read Markus.

Have I missed it some where or do you a full spec of your engine?

Re: Escort Sigma 1600 Race Car

              Hi Mank

No I have not listed all that is done to the engine. But I've tried to do everything I could think of. More than my wallet can handle really but it's for a good cause.
This was the first try and it did not turn out bad.A Fantastic engine to drive.
Alltough I believe all the right harware are accounted for theres still a lot of trying, adjusting, modificating and setting up to do.

What figures did your first attempt make?

I'd like to take mine a little further next year. I can't taken any credit for mine though, I listen to Jon and just assembled it haha.

Certainly looks impressive from the pics I've seen.

Re: Escort Sigma 1600 Race Car

I set the limit for a succesfull swap to a 200 bhp. Which would have meant the same power to weight ratio than I had with the pinto. I did not quite make it with the first set up. The car was a cool second faster than it was with the 220bhp Pinto though. I believe its due to the improved weight distribution and the dog box.
The second go will include more opened ports and different lenghts of inlet and exhaust manifolds. Maybe a differen air filter and some more tinkering with the timing.

                                Tiny update.
Finished the lower alternator bracket today.
I have a day off so I have a chance to see how the main and big end bearings are doing. Well adter only dyno runs and one race I don't expect them to be too worn.

I should have installed the alternator there in the first place. Just makes acces to the engine soo much easier.
