Re: a very powerfull and troublesome bmw 316

had a mammoth 6.5 hour drive afterwork today to pick up some goodies, a set of race valves and steel rocker arms, the uprated rockers are essentual at over 7,000 rpm especially when combined wth a lumpy cam

i was also lucky enough to pick up this dry sump for very very very little money, altough i dont know if i will be able to use it because its actually for fitting the engine in a chervon single seater which doesnt have an x member running under the engine and has the engine fitted at a reduced angle of 17 degress as opposed to 30 when in a saloon

Re: a very powerfull and troublesome bmw 316

today i put the dry sump the engine mounts on a spare block, i was worried it would hit every where the dry sump being quite bulky in a place where the std one is thin and i'd previously had problems with even that hitting things,

luckily my previous x member mods and moving of the steering rack left me nearly enough clearance

the sump is still at the wrong angle, its wrong by 13degrees, but i think it will work like that, only time will tell, i could space the o/s engine mount a bit to get the engines angle closer to what the sump was designed for, but i wont for now, because the exhaust will them most likely hit the steering colume, but i if when its all fitted for the final build if i can space the engine and adjust the angle a bit without remaking the exhuast manifold i will

so all that was needed was a little slicing out the top of teh x member

ok small update, been out of circulation for a while, managed to out my back out then when that was better managed to trap a nerve so i still couldnt stand up! as well as get rather distracted by the fairer sex but i've finally done a bit more, after a long wait for my dry sump pulleys ive been able to get on with finishing the dry sump bracket and modifying the engine pulley to fit the crankshaft boss, as well as block of several oil ways in the block and drill and tap the block to take the oil supply from the dry sump pump

unfortunatly this all means my old crank trigger wheel no longer fits, but dave white kindly let me have a trigger wheel that was origonally intended for linfordand with a little modification it fits over the crank boss, actually attaching it will be another matter.........
