back to the car for now, i had a chat with pace this morning, and they recon im right regarding the crank centrifuging too much oil away from the mains, my pump can be upgraded, with longer pressure rotors, but that means new body and longer shaft, im awaiting their quote!

Re: A race bmw 316, now S14 powered again!

a modicum of progress, robbing the main caps from another couple of blocks i came up with a "set" that had minimal miss match, and sent the block to ivor searls to have it line honed, as it honed ok they also bored it and gave the top face a light skim.

so i now have the basis for the rebuild

as for the business, well thats a case of 1k down 19K to go, so best not get too carried away on my engine!

no not yet. theres loads of other stuff to do first, including a possible house move or re mortgage which will have to be done before i quit my job.

Try and do your best to keep everything going on.

I don't participate a lot on this forum but I sure "waste" a lot a time reading/learning threads and yours is one of the best Graham.

If you were from Portugal I would surely be interested in that apprentice spot.

                    Cheers,

                    Mário Santos.

cheers chaps, you all say the nicest of things,

progress really is going to stall though, since i made the decision to jump ship work wise ive managed to put away a good few quid, in fact im well impressed with what i have been able to save in a short space to time, ive got 10% of my target figure so i still need a lot more, encouraged by what i have saved ive decided to cull any expenditure on the car other than stuff i have already committed to, maybe if bargain of the century pops up i'l spend a few quid.

the new longer rods arrived last week, the fardon rods being 4mm longer, obviously they look pretty similar to my auzzy rods, the fardons ones only really differing by being thinner round the bigend, the beams are a bit narrower but also thicker, i think they are a bit lighter but the scales have packed up so cant tell. and the oil hole for the pin is in the top not bottom of the rod which to my eyes makes far more sense.
the old rod is a pinto one just to give a comparison as to how long these rods actually are

Do you need new pistons with these new rods? Or were you way below the deck with the shorter rods?

with the old rods the pistons were about 60 thou down the bore, and that was on a block which was missing about 60 thou from its face, the head gasket is 70 odd thou thick, so i should be looking at about 30 thou squish, although with a new line bored block with a light skim to clean up on paper it works but it may turn out the rods are a tad too long and i will have to take a little off the piston crowns
