Re: a very powerfull and troublesome bmw 316
cheers chaps
now the dry sump drive is sorted i need to attach my new trigger wheel, i dont have much to attach it to either, my engine doesnt have a front pulley as such, just a modified crank boss form a big six bmw engine
unfortunatly wherre i needed to attach drill and tap holes for teh trigger wheel some overlapped with teh origonal holes that the big six engine uses for bolting on a crank damper etc, so i locteded bolts into the holes let the loctite set and cut the bolts off flush with the boss
next was to drill and tap holes to take the trigger, and make a new mounting bracket for the crank sensor as this trigger is smaller in diameter than my origonal one
as you can see the dry sump pullet fitted very close! infact i had to machine down the pulley to get a fraction of clearance for the bolts, still i no teh bolts will never come out and if they do im alreay in deep trouble because the oil pump pulley will of already fallen off!
to get the oil pump pulleys to line up i had to thin down the crank boss where it meets the crank so i now need to thin down the timming cover also!!
lastly a pic with all the pulleys and timing cover on, so in theory i think i now have the bottom end all sorted

Re: a very powerfull and troublesome bmw 316
its a 2.1 reduction, the pulleys only look odd because were used to seeing dry sumps driven off a pintos aux pulley which is rotating at half engne speed, where as im driving off the crankComment

Re: a very powerfull and troublesome bmw 316
not so 250 would be ok, although im secretly hoping to see more
as im going back to my N/A roots theres no turbo this year and only a 8 valve head, should be just fast enough to show mr white the error of his waysComment

Re: a very powerfull and troublesome bmw 316
Huh.
The Pinto aux drive turns 1/4 speed, of crank, like cam [4 stroke] so should be 1 to 1.
4 to 1 crank driven
2 to 1 is too slow in my book,.... but whats pace say ?Take it Easy....

Re: a very powerfull and troublesome bmw 316
roger cam shafts turn at 1/2 not 1/4 crank speed!
pace spec'd both the pump and the pulleys to suit my specific engine so if 2.1 is wrong then pace got it wrong!
interestinly the pulleys in the pic of the crank driven duratec in that pic look very similar to mineLast edited by Graham; 14-03-2009, 15:24.Comment
