yeah i do have good neighbours, i'm a good neighbour too, i make very little noise and all the neighbours find my car repairing skills very handy and cheap, the only thing they could complain about is the state of my garden which does tend to ressemble a breakers yard, infact the more of it i cover with garage the tidier it gets

Re: a very powerfull and troublesome bmw 316

i took a pick of the clearance between the top of the tyre and bottom of the inner wing, hmmm its getting tight there i definatly cant lower the car and more!

i also decided i didnt like my new rear arch, so i cut it off!

welded the inner and outer skins back togther and bent/ folded/hammer a new arch from some sheet steel

Nice work, will look good with a bit of paint on

Are you running that size all round now then. I assume the front arches are easier to mod than the rears Or are you still limiting the lock on the rack??

Re: a very powerfull and troublesome bmw 316

i want to run the same size all the way round as it makes life much simpler and cuts down on the number of wheels i have to cart around which really is getting an issue because the 10x18s take up so much space.

yes front arches are easier to mod than rears but i stil need to limit the lock by quite a bit because they foul on the vertical part of the inner wing with and real amount of steering lock

then the height of the spoiler, i was hoping to use a higher more effective spoiler, as the current one doesnt look like its as high as the rules allow, but unfortunatly it is

and guess who wrote the rule regarding max spoiler height? yes you guessed it me

a bit more meassuring showed i can move the spoiler back 4 inches though which will make it more efficient and give it more leverage on the car
Just a thought...If you're sticking with the batmobile-style rear wing, do the regs permit you to run a 'lip' at the top of the rear screen (nice profile pic here) which would help with keeping the airflow attached at the rear, making the spoiler much more efficient...

the rules wont allow a lip on the roof unforunatly.

i got a couple of hours in the garage over the last two days and and cut the old o/s/r arch away, welded the skins back together and fabricated a new wider wheel arch

                18's here we come

Looking good Graham, will it run the same ride height with those wheels then?

Guess you'd better order up the other pair of wheels now

                    wheels are already on order,

the bigger rolling radius is going to lift the rideheight about 1/2 inch, but in going to have to live with that, as there just isnt sufficent clearance between the underside of the innerwing reinforcements to lower it any more, and in any case winding the suspension down will compromise the geometry

i might have to hold off on some of the winter mods as i'm blowing most of the budget on 5 new wheels and tyres 4 NEW slicks for the 18's and 4 NEW wets for the 17's which in total is the best part of £3K

i havent raced on new rubber since i had the 2002

                        Ouch!

What's a season's worth of rubber come out at? Barring punctures et cetera, how long can you expect a set to last?

this car isnt actually too hard on tyres i could probably get a season out of a set

a little progress from yesterday, drained the coolant removed a few hoses, teh turbo and the manifold adapter plates

1 turbo on a wont stay tight manifold,

i also offered this up to try for size, an ebay special, its for a volvo, it nearly goes, unfortunatly its just a bit to bulky in one spot so i wont bother with it, although i have an idea it would easily adapt to suit a pinto though, now i wonder who also has one of them???????????

I just had a random thought about your rear wing again...

If the rules state it can only project a certain distance past the rear bumper, can you fit a US-spec (ie massive) rear bumper?
