Re: A race bmw 316, now S14 powered again!
it certainly wasnt easy, the whole race i was thinking dont let bill get up the inside! i've never done so many laps under such pressure every single corner, as you well know eventually i tend to crack and try a bit too hard somewhere and go a bit wide leaving the door open and know neither you or bill need a second chance, its also well telling that the most of the other cars bill and i had for company had serious turbo power.Comment

amazing how you managed to keep such a small and light car behind you round them bends, some extremely good driving thier, thier was some moments when the mini sounds like it was really pushing it and you held it off, so that new power of yours certainly looks like it was worth doing!
well done on a fantastic race, both of youits not dead till it's buried!

Sorry, Did not mean it that way. My apologies. I was in no way inferring that your driving caused any problems.Last edited by Group4_Mark2; 29-03-2011, 21:58.To finish first, you must first finishComment

Re: A race bmw 316, now S14 powered again!
I was sat at the top of paddock hill (in the seat things, yeah posh i know) i was amazed at how you kept bill behind you, he was like an ahgry bee all over the back, then every straight you just had the legs and pulled away, great race, you sure were pleased after if finished
every now and then the wind changed direction and i could hear you give it the beans out of druids down to GH sounded very tasty
have to say big word up to pushrodking too, he was flying and it was only in the later part of the race (getting lapped by that mental skyline) that he started to slow down, makes you realise how small the escorts are when a clio makes it look big
will have to come and watch next time you are all at lydden hill
thanks, IanComment

Re: A race bmw 316, now S14 powered again!
shock horror! look how short the intakes are!
as i said elsewhere about 3 inches longer gave better torque but robbed me of some topend, and judgeing by how much the backend twictched it certainly didnt need more midrange anyway!
we were getting pretty bad fuel stand off at some points that you dont experience with the large diameter big tapered trumpets, but then again they gave less power, whats probably happening is the bigger dia ones are killing the induction pulses, so you get neither bad ones that chuck fuel back or or good ones that aid cylinder filling,
before brands i knocked up an airbox of sorts, well more of a splash shield really to try and keep the fuel around the intakes not blowing all over the place waiting to go woof!

Re: A race bmw 316, now S14 powered again!
That is an interestig setup. Some bundle of wires under the bodies. I can see how you would have clearance issues with the bonnett. If the trumpets were much longer you would have serious problems getting it to fit.
What is the currentl length from the end of the trumpets to the back of the inlet valves and what was the length with the longer trumpets? At what rpms were you getting the standoff?
What length are the exhaust manifold primary pipes. The standoff may be due to the exhaust not scavenging properly at certain RPMsTo finish first, you must first finishComment

Re: A race bmw 316, now S14 powered again!
we tried so many different lengths its untrue! i'll have a meassure later for you, the stand off also varies with trumpet length, exhaust primary length, err not sure its about 16 inch, as its a pinto ashley i wouldnt be hard to find one to meaasure, same manifold on the 8v gave far less stand off.
TBH its got to stay as is for now, moneys all spent up! if i do anything i need to play with the diff which i probably will, fossie has pm'd me some interesting info, the only otherthing i might do is look to shed some of the 30 something kgs weight the cars put on over the winter because currently im 150kgs OVER the min weight and thats with just a couple of litres of fuel in the tankComment
