your prob right about the weight a fully trimed RS2000 weighed about 950kgs, where as the lightest of E30 beemers comes in at something like 1150 kgs, although some of that is down to better much spec'd trim central locking pas etc etc, not to mention a stronger shell!
the current race car ready to race weighs in at just under 880kgs which i'd say is prob about 80kgs heavier than a similar spec'd dry sump massive wheeled multi point caged escort.Comment

880kg is impressive, the E30 M3 rallycars that used to be raced over here by the likes of Bertie Fisher were rapid! easily the fastest 2wd atmo cars at the time, and they would still be at least be on par with the best 2.5 litre millington mk2 escorts, loved the sound of them and excellent handling, and then the sierra cosworth came along and spoiled all the atmo fun.

good stuff, when i win the lottery or similar i'll build another s14 engine in 2.5 form they are good for about 350 bhp @9,000rpm.
back down to earth for a bit this turned up today
a decompression plate from ferriday, although i didnt need it in a hurry, it was made to a drawing specific to my application and delivered in 48HRS!
why do i want a decompression plate? well its to do with money really, my new crank will push the pistons 2mm higher out the top of the block (which has been skimmed by a couple of mm over the years), i cant machine the pistons down to suit, i dont want to buy new shorter rods or pistons ( which would have to be custom made) or a new block, which is 2K new or s/h as a whole engine. so given the choice of £100 for a decomp plate or £2000 for a block which will have to be bored i choose to spend £100
if the decomp plate works ok with this engine it leaves the door open to further future capacity increases given a fresh blockand decomp plate i could increase the stroke more without changing pistons and rods, making 95mm stroke possible with a 95mm bore i'd have a 2693cc or 2722cc with a slight 0.5mm increase in bore size which would really and truely be the absolute upper limit of whats possible capacity wise with this engineLast edited by Graham; 09-09-2010, 13:08.Comment

ferriday say put the decomp plate between the head gasket and head, use a thin smere of blue hilomar on the top side of the plate to seal it against the headComment

i would of thought the same thing, either that or 2 forms of headgasket, one on top of the plate, on below the plate, but then i've never delt with one or even read up about one.its not dead till it's buried!

i decided i need a rollover jig, making life difficult for myself i also decided i wasnt going to spend any money on one!
this is what i came up with, using the base of my engine crane which is unbelievably heavy i welded together some old bits of A frame and attached it to the oe
bumper mounts, somewhere along the line i cocked up a bit and made and the pivot higher than i wanted, not that i realised until later, the plan at the other end was to use one of my engine stands (i have 3) getting very late in the day i hooked up the engine stand and realised my pivot mistake, the front and rear being at vastly different heights, at that point i went in doors rather dejected my work was proabaly a waste of time, differnt height pivots mean it wouldnt rotate
in the morning i discovered much to my surprise that despite the missalignment the shell rotated quite nicelyand the whole things quite stable

i sorta side tracked myself today and started modifying a rear beam for the new shell, gradually i've been moving the beam up in the old shell, as moving it up limits the adverse camber effects of lowering, i've now taken it a step further, by doing away with the bushes and by building solid mounts directly into it i was able to get the beam higher up than previously possible, ive gained about 1- 3/4 inch.
normally the tube through teh middle is flush with the underside of beam
